A Betta Story
I got a Betta for a friend of mine. A Round/Combtail at the LFS. Since my friend did not pick up fish yet and ask to pick if it could be picked up two days later, I housed it in a Betta holder with suction cups inside my GF's Cichlid tank.
The 15G tank has four Yellow Princess, four Blue Pendani's and a Fireface Flowerhorn, all about 2.5" or so in size.
We went out to have dinner. When we came back I noticed that small isolation tank had broken free and was at the bottom of the tank. I was worried the poor betta drowned... but there was no one in the tank and the tank had a lid. I was wondering what happend to the Betta.
My GF saw him in the middle of the tank near the bottom with his fins fully extended but displaying stress lines. Apparently he managed to squeeze out of the tank through a small feeding hole. All the Chiclids were hiding in their rock formation on one side of the tank and the betta was slowly moving around.
Cup in hand I decided to watch him for a bit. Finally a young Yellow Prince came out to great him. The Betta approached the prince with his fins fully extended but he was not flaring. His stress line were visible but the Betta was putting up a good front.
Slowly the other Cichlds started to come out, showing visible interest in the Betta who move cautiously around the bottom of the tank. No one nip or bit him but they were coming close and giving him a good look. I decided he had enough of an adventure and pulled him out.
The Betta Isolation tank is now relegated as a sick Cichlid Tank.
