Betta Acting Strange?

I have had this male Betta now for almost 1 year, and it was definitely a rescue case. I saw him at a pet store in a filthy cup, and he had almost turned completely pale. I decided to rescue him and bring him home, but even after being in his own heated tank he never really gained all of his color back. He has been fine until now, he was always bubble nesting and flaring everyday. Just recently, all he has been doing is resting on his side against a plant at the bottom of the tank, and then proceeding to rush to the top for a breath. He has no white spots and his fins are still long with no signs of finrot. I feed him pellets right now, and he eats normally. I am so confused by this?

Don't know what to tell ya. . . he could be showing early signs of catching something but what I don't know. I have no suggestions for ya. . sorry couldn't be more helpful.

I was thinking that too. I dont know how long he was at the store for so.... Thank you for the input though, any feedback helps.

I'm pretty sure its old age because not only has he been in the store he has also been at the breeders place for over 3 months and someone could of already bought him and sold him back but yeh I'm pretty sure its old age.
