Betas Male And Female In 20 Gal Together

I think, johnny.t., that what we are attempting to avoid is someone taking this and thinking that ok lets just put them together. We see especially young people repeatedly that just want to see what will happen. So we want to be cautious and not encourage people to do something that will not work out. Jammer's 4 hour experiemce is not enough to cause an exception to the rule. That said, each of us learns in our own way and on our own schedule. RW is a very firm advocate of humane responsiblity.

Indeed.

ok after the bashing of the point i have kept a close eye on them when they were together as i am a responsible pet owner even though new to betas i still researched this and was attempting to breed and saw that they were doing well together in the tank it was simply a question of was it actuallly possibleand i have saw all of the responses the only answer i didnt recieve was how do you know when the female is actually ready for breeding?

she will have vertical stripes.
but why are you trying to breed? bettas aren't guppies. they're complex to breed, and you'll need a few more tanks than 1 20 gallon to raise any fry that don't get eaten by the parents. females must be removed away from the eggs straight after all the eggs are in the nest, and the male must be removed once the fry are free swimming. and then theres the feeding the babies, and housing them in seperate containers once the boys show aggression...and of course breeding pet store VTs is frowned upon anyway, you don't know how old the fish is, or what kind of fry you're going to get, if it's mutt VTs you'll have a hard time giving them away, especially if you get super lucky and get a spawn of 250-500.
