well i have always been told that beta fish will die when put in a tank w/ other fish. i have had my beta in my 10 gal for a month or so and he seems to be doing fine.

what do u think??

lol who told you that a lfs  well it really depends what fish you have with betta.you couldnt do a guppy because of its tail but you could do corys.

I think they will be just fine as long as you have enough plants etc. They like to hang out near the top so maybe you could float some live plants on the surface.

I had my Male Betta in my community tank...but only for about 3 days....because he killed one of my male guppies. Guppies and Male Bettas = a real bad combination in my opinion  Male Bettas will attack any other kind of fish with long flowing type fins least thats what I've read.

Good Luck!!

yeap your right elisabeth about the long finned thing. but once a bettas even sees the fish he will chase till either hes dead or the fish is dead.

Nope, i disagree on the last post. Of the 4 bettas i have kept with guppies, NONE have killed guppies, nor did they die. They just flare up, and the guppy gets out of his way quickly. Then the betta is satisfied, and leaves him alone.

I dont know, maybe its just my bettas.

P.T.

Phantom You must have super nice Bettas :D

Mine was really teritorial (spelling?) he picked a spot in the corner of my tank and everytime something swam near him he'd chase it away. I also believe he was the reason my male swordtail died...I saw him chasing him but at the time didn't think anything of it...but now that I think about it he probably chased him to death like catfish food said.

I watched him chase the male guppie he ended up killing...this was before I read up on Bettas and then by the morning....my male guppies tail was almost all chewed off...I straight away knew it was my bad bad Betta and took him out....but the Guppie ended up dieing anyways...probably from the stress :-(

I wouldn't risk putting him back in my big tank...because I have 2 other beautiful male guppies and I'd probably kill myself if he ended up killing them

I have one of my bettas in a 9G half-hexagon tank with 7 neon & 3 gold tetra as well as 2 corys.

There was 8 neons originally but I think the betta snacked on that one. Since then he hasnt eaten any of them.

well my beta has a spot in tank and stayes there. he will chase n e thing away from that area and leaves them alone. ive only seen him flair up s couple of times. but yea my dose hang out by the top.

btw i have 2 freshwater catfish (bottem feeders), 3 i have no clue(i know that there schooling fish)

From now on i will never keep my betta in a community tank, it got bullied by glowlight tetras!! (belive it or not) they are the nicest fish in the tank untill mr betta came in, poor guy barely had enough fins to swim :-( but now they have fully grown back and hes in a 5gal by himself.. best way for em in my opinion :)

Bettas can be kept in communities. Make sure that there are no long finned fish (ie guppies) because the betta might kill it. There are exceptions like PT's betta. Make sure that there are no fin nipping fish either, like tiger barbs or serpae tetras. i didn't realise serpae tetras were fin nippers until it was too late :( You can probably stick some a group of cories in there, since they prefer the bottom

HTH

I think it also largly depends on the temperment of your betta. They vary so much from very calm shy bettas to agressive bullies. Thats half what makes them so great ;)

You have to get to know your betta to know what It could go with.
