What are the most informative and helpful channels on YouTube?

Are there any?

That's a bit hard to answer for me. There are so many YouTube videos that people have made about the aquatic hobby. A lot of them are made by enthusiasts, but not always specifically with beneficial information. It's more about showing what they have. What's also massively uploaded by many are nice videos but with the wrong information. You really have to seek for the right videos that you can benefit from.

That's the thing. There are a lot of videos that are well produced and presented with confidence, but they give out bad info. I try to find good info. It's hard and I have to filter through other sources and what I know for myself.

Rachel's was the one channel I did watch, But that was because I knew Rachel for many years. She is a friend. In addition to being a skilled fishkeeper she is also one of the most decent human beings I have known in my 75+ years of life.

I watch almost none of the sort of vids discussed in this thread. My favorite fish vids on Youtube are the ones shot in the wild. I often watch them not in English but with subtitles.

However, the fish related vids I do use are ones which show how to fix broken equipment. When I needed to replace a gasket on one of my Eheim canisters which is normally done by the manufacturer, I found a vid that showed me how to do it.

I do not use Social media either, there are much better ways to get information that are more accurate. Anybody with a camera or phone and a few bucks can make any vid they want. So the few fish related vids I do watch and from which I do take away information are the ones made by people I know personally or who have an international reputation.

I have learned the most from the old style fish forums and their chat rooms or from personal contact or correspondence with experts I know I can trust. There is no filter for what goes up on the net. Any idiot can post anything they want as can any true expert. The problem is these days a lot of people want a fast and easy answer.

Also, the longer one has been keeping fish and having a decent success doing so the more they tend to think their way is the best. This is rarely the case. All of us have to work to find out what works for us in our tanks rather than just copying what someone else has been successful doing. I know how I do things works for me, but I also know that my way may be neither the best nor the only way.

What I have learned is that the best way for me to pick up great information is when I can talk to directly with the expert. I want to be able to ask questions or to request a more in depth explanation. I want to be able to include my side of things and ask where I am doing it wrong. That is the best feedback I can get on how I am doing things.

I could tell you what my favorite youtube channels are, but none of them deal with fish keeping. For that, I prefer reading up from several different sites I trust, or asking people right here on the forum.

I really like this guy.

Father Fish

He's an old school enthusiast. So don't get too shocked by his methods... Loll.

But it's always a good source of ideas and he knows his stuff.

I watch quite regularly Predatory Fins as thats my kind of fishkeeping, I used to watch Ohio Fish Rescue but the dad in it bores me and from the UK FishNorthWest and used to like Micksfish

I’m probably a real oddball here but I never watch YouTube videos . Something about watching videos on the internet just doesn’t grab me . This goes back a long time and has mostly to do with the poor camera skills most amateur videographers have . Herky-jerky jumping around , out of focus , not staying in one place long enough and too much blather . Anytime that I do watch a video it’s right here on The Great TFF Forum and it’s almost always the great guppy videos of our own @emeraldking .

Confession time. I mostly listen to YouTube videos while I play video games.

Marks Shrimp Tanks.
This guy is crazy and keeps about 25 aquariums, if not more.
Almost all are filled with shrimp! That said though, he is quite specialized in shrimp.
However he also knows a lot about water perimeters and algae.
