Best peaceful yellow fish?

So basically, what yellow, non-nippy, acidic-water fish can you recommend for me?
Or... And I'm just spitballing here. You could ditch the betta, they are crap fish anyhow 😛, and get yourself some Chindongo saulosi mbuna! You'll get saltwater intense yellow on the juveniles and females, and then iridescent, royal blue on the males. And best of all, they are a dwarf mbuna that will fit on your 60B tank, plus they are one of the not particularly aggressive species of mbuna. Ta-da! 🥳 Problem solved. 🧐🎩. You are welcome.

Eh, if they’re any kind of self-respecting cichlids, they’ll eat everything else in the tank and I can’t plant it with them. I do like them, but if they’re not good community fish, they can’t work.

I like how you are going with a color theme. It’s really cool but yellow is a difficult one. Someone above said a yellow mystery snail which is a good idea. You could get some kind of yellow shrimp. The beta might eat a few but if you have enough plants he won’t be able to find any. What is your pH and water hardness if you have it?

I’ll be using RO/DI water for this tank, as I can’t keep anything that’s not insanely hard-water happy in my water. I plan to keep my snails happy by adding minerals, but I’m still trying to figure out how to do that without killing everyone else. It’s going to be very heavily planted, and since bettas have bad vision, I doubt he’ll even notice the shrimp. Slightly worried about my other fish, but I’m not planning to keep anything else very territorial. Maybe the BN pleco would eat them, but probably not. Think the snail is probably the best idea, though. Real cute, unproblematic, and they have the funniest antics.

Ok, here are a few more ideas. You could keep a few honey gourami because they are peaceful, golden wonder killifish would be cool to, or maybe some ember tetras but they are more of an orange than yellow. Here is a website I found that has a few more good ideas. You would need to research it a bit more but here it is https://aquariumfishcity.com/yellow-fish/

That’s a great list. Found about five things. Definitely need more research, but thanks!

And I just found this gem…

Just be careful with the rainbow fish and the beta together because the rainbow fish might be a bit aggressive.

Bettas and gouramis are also a no-no.

And those rainbowfish need hard water (10 to 15 dH)

Yeah, I just thought it was funny, since, you know, Rainbowfish aren’t four feet long! I’m more leaning towards the panda dwarf cichlid now, since they seem like the best choice for my tank.

None of those fish would work with a Betta. The Pseudomugil mellis would cost you the price of many aquariums if you could find it. P auriantacus is not a fish to waste on a betta tank - it is a difficult rarity.

If the dwarf cichlid went into breeding mode - the only time the female is yellow - it would gut a Betta. The Betta would be a recognizable predator, and it would pay for that. I know panduro well, having kept and bred them for a couple of years. They defend their nests, no matter the size of the tank. Never forget a fancy Betta is really handicapped in a dispute. They swim badly.

M herbertaxelrodi are beauties, but large and active and I would expect dangerous to a Betta. They like their dead leaves and decaying plants, and what does a long finned Betta's fins resemble? I expect they'd pick a betta to pieces.

What about the blue-eyed Congo tetras, then? They’re three inches long…but, you know, they’re also tetras.

I’m not gonna do a long-finned betta. I’m thinking more along the lines of a female or plakat. Longfins are gorgeous, but if getting one limits my options this much, I’ll choose a plakat.

I think I really might just go with gold mystery snails and yellow shrimp. They’re pretty enough, and they barely add to bioload.

We need to find you some kind of fish that will work because that’s not a lot in the 60 gallon breeder. Are you willing to add another color that is similar to yellow like orange maybe or no?
