Chemicals is not exactly specific. Do you mean water treatment, fertilizers, reactive tests, medicines, etc?
Nevermind. My mistake. The OP specifically said water treatment and fertilizers.

Personally, I use Seachem Prime to dechlorinate and Seachem Comprehensive as a fertilizer.

API. That has always been my go to. But others like seachem are also recommended...

For water conditioner, there is in my view no better product than API's Tap Water Conditioner. Seachem's Prime is not as safe for your fish, and it has other plant-related issues. If all you have is chlorine or chloramine, the API TWC is perfect. It also deals with heavy metals, but in a better way than Prime. Many other conditioners have added chemicals/substances that at best do nothing, but usually have detriments to fish.

As for plant fertilizers, this gets more complicated. The GH of your source water, plus the fish load and water changes affect plant nutrient levels. And the type of planted tank (low tech or high tech) is very critical here.

You didn't make a mistake in your post #2. The OP originally stated Chemical, but later edited to Water Treatment and Fert after your question.

I used to have problems with the water chemistry of my aquarium, and fish used to die far too soon. I then started using Seachem products and have not looked back. Ammonia 0, nitrites 0, nitrates 20 ppm, ph 7.8, GH 18, KH 5. My fish never get any disease, and only die when they reach their normal life span, It is great to see my fish get to their normal size and all seem happy. I do weekly 25% water changes, and use Seachem Prime to dose the whole tank, not just the new water. I have a Juwel vision 180 tank, and clean the filter media every week in the water taken out the tank. I then dose the tank with Seachem Stability. I help keep the detriment down by using Seachem Pristine. My hobby is now an absolute pleasure.

I look at ingredients and price. I have no brand loyalties. If it does the job I want and has a decent price, I get it. If I try it and don't like it, I get another.

Brands come and go and their popularity moves around.

I look at ingredients only. I know biologically how any substance added to the aquarium water will or can affect fish, whether negatively or positively, and I will not knowingly use any product that has something in it that I believe is detrimental.

Seachem and API are generally trustworthy, and two of the better producers/suppliers in the hobby. But both do make products that have absolutely no business in a fish tank. That doesn't negate the products that are beneficial and often necessary. It just means you need to know what you are using, and its effects.

I have two brand loyalties.

For disease treatments I only use Waterlife products. They were groundbreaking and award winning when they were introduced in the 1960s and are simple to use and very effective. Why change?

Tetra Min was also groundbreaking and award winning. Never an issue with tetra foods either. They were the best then, and they’ve been improved ever since by 50+ years of R&D. Why change?
