Best Filtration For 55 Gallon

So I'm in the process of setting up a 4ft 55 gallon tank in my dining room. I haven't bought any of the filtration or heating for the tank yet but what do you think the best option is? How difficult/cost effective are sump systems? I can't drill the tank as it is tempered glass. Would a canister style filter be better? What brands would you recommend? So far the largest tank I've had is a 20 tall and for that I use an Aquaclear 50 HOB, so more advanced filtration systems are unknown territory to me.

I use canisters on all my tanks except my 5g fry tank (for obvious reasons). I'm sure you'll get lots of suggestions for brands. I have two Fluvals and an Odyssea. All work well.
