Hi, I have two aquaclear mini's and now acquired a tank with an aqua tech regent filter on it, does anyone know the better of the two brands? Also I was wondering if regent is a decent brand (i think its an extension of aqua tech) but im not sure. I think they sell most of their equipment at walmart. Any opinions I'd appreciate it!
Thanks

I only have experience with AquaClear Mini and they are excellent. All of my smaller tanks are driven by these and they never let me down (so far).

I'd highly recomend them!

I'd go with the aquaclear. I have a few minis, a couple 200s & a 300. They run forever, this one 200 is the ugliest, most beat up thing. 2 people had it before me, it's at least 4 years old, the sponge is 3 years old & still works.

Tolak

thanks for the help everyone, I'll be keeping the aquaclear, the regent one is far quieter but in terms of filters aquaclears is not a loud running filter or anything, and I have had my fathers tank running a aquaclear 300 for 3 years!

I _think_ Regent is the lower brand name of the guys who make Penguin Filters. Their line of filters look identical to Penguins minus the bio-wheels which they reserve them to their Penguin and Emperior lines of filters...

Aqua-Tech is made by Marine Land, Penguin is only one of there brands.

They are sold at places like Walmart. :/

Although the impeller and various components look the same, they aren't.

Aqua-tech filters are cheaper and less effective than the Pengiun or others made by marineland. But what else would you expect out of walmart?

This is very true!
I found out that the tank came from that same company regent, but since a tank is the least expensive part of the system here and it looks to be in great shape (it was used 6 mo.) Im keeping that part.

I wouldn't worry about the tank. It's made by All-Glass.

Regent is a shell company for MarineLand so they don't have to "Soil" there name with the walmart stuff. :/

The filters are about the only bad part of there kits. The heaters tend to be made by Tetra, the tank and hood by All-Glass, and the filters are cheasy versions, stripped, of the pengiuns. The Aqua-tech filters even roll off a different assembly line. :/

Thanks for the advice I really appreciate that info. It's always good to feel reassured about the equipment!
