i'm getting betta's new home ready but i'm not sure on what type of filter would be best for his tank. The filter with the tank i'm not sure if i want to use as the output works like a HOB, like a waterfall, breaking up the surface. i'm not sure what would be ideal, i guess something which doesn't break up the surface too much as there's no need and not too high powered output as the one i have currently would sweep him across the tank if it wasn;t turned right down.
Is a low powered internal a good solution? What do you all use?

Also, i need to put backing on three sides as he will be next to my corys, but i find the backing i have is just as reflective as the glass, if not more so. Is there non-reflective backing or what else could i use?

A sponge filter. that's what I use in my betta grow out tanks. Also, so what if he sees the cories?

agree with above-sponge filters are the way to go. you can make one very easily with jsut a few bits which you may have laying around anyway (seeing as you already have other tanks running). very simple and takes about 10 minutes to build one. PM me if you would like instructions on how to assemble one.
i also agree that it shouldnt matter if he sees the cories in the next tank.
cheers

Definitely a sponge filter. I have one called the Toms Aquarium mini internal filter. It works great for my 2.5gal aquarium. I'm not sure what size your tank is, but this one is rated for 1-5 gallons. It is adjustable for the amount of flow, and has an attachment to break up the current if it still seems too strong. My bettas all love it!
I also wouldn't worry about your betta seeing the cories in the other tank. :)

I'm not sure to be honest. Im sure you could find one on eBay or amazon though.

I have an aqua one mini filter in mine (it's sponge filter). These are available in the UK.

Fluval also do a mini-filter so that might be good (I've no idea how powerful these are) but for a smaller tank the aqua one mini is ideal
