Best Canister Filter?

out of those 3 the eheim classic all the way. do not get the ecco . whilst eheims are widely regarded as the best filters on the market the eccos have a bad reputation. ive never used an eccomyself but people on here who have have all said they are useless.

I have a 2217 classic and 2236 ecco in two different tanks, both have been reliable, I find the ecco easier to use and clean but the 2217 holds loads more media relative to its size. The early eccos had problems with the durability of the priming handle I dont think the newer ones have this problem.

The eccos probably aren't nearly as bad as people make out, but from what I've seen from comparing specs with price is that you seem to be paying a little more for the eheim name when they really aren't any more reliable than the competition, so while not bad, they dont represent the best value for money.

OP: I would consider the marineland C-220: http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod...mp;pcatid=16744 (always best to go for a filter rated for at least a slightly larger tank).

Get the Classic. The ECCO range is underpowered, and will be needing maintenance more often than many other canisters. I've run mine with a few different media setups, it still plugs more quickly than my Classics, Pro's or Pro II's. Most often it plugs in the recesses around the impeller.

The HOT magnum is no where near as flexible with media as either of the other two, and is more of a multiple tank design. I use mine to clean up tanks in between vacs. Load it with floss, let it run a couple of hours, it's one of the only filters I know of with a self contained power switch. That pleated filter that comes with it plugs in no time, floss works better.

I have a classic running on my oscar tank, it keeps running, for months on end. No sign of the output slowing yet, going on 9 months now. I generally get around to cleaning canisters about every 6 months, time to torture test this one.

I have a HOT magnum and it is not much canister. It is a fairly nice filter for doing a quick polish on a tank and can move from tank to tank easily but you said you wanted a canister and it really does not work like one.

eheim every time..first choice is pro2 & pro3, then classic, then eco,

go for the classic Eheim. as for how reliable? check the people with cannisters 10 years old or, even, older and ask what make the, vast majority are . no prizes for guessing though.
