Hi all,

I've got a little 6 gallon tank that I'd really like to add some sort of pleco or other algae eater to, but I'm not sure if there are any that would stay small enough. I've got a betta and two african dwarf frogs already. I'd like to add one male frog as well since both of my current ones are female and I've heard that a male would sing at them which would be fun :)

At the same time though, I've always loved algae eater types and watching them munching on the glass. Does this setup leave enough room for a single small one of some sort? If so, what would be best considering this mix?

Don't bother with catfish in this system. Go with nerite snails and shrimps. They will do a much better job of eating the algae and keeping the glass clean.

Even very small loricariids, such as Otocinclus, will demand a bigger tank with more stable water quality/chemistry than you can provide in a system this small. Besides, Otocinclus need to be kept in groups of six or more, and that would overstock your tank anyway.

Cheers, Neale

I agree with Neale, go for Amano shrimp which will eat algae off of ornaments and plants and snails which will hopefully have a go at the glass :D

I woudl say Amano shrimp get to big for a 6gal. Get some cherries or CRS

Yep a few Amano Shrimps for a 6G
