Just came home from work and found one of my Rams all bent up. I moved him into a hospital tank, but am thinking I will have to put him down. He seems unable to move anything but his side fins. He is breathing but really struggling to do so. His body is all bent, and it appears he is unable to straighten himself.

Anyone able to tell me how this might have happened? And also is there anything I can do for him?

I would put him down sounds like he's suffering.

Bent spine can in an injury, old age, vatamin defiency, fish tb, internal parasites.

Has he injured himself.
Does he look thin or bloated.
What does it look like when your fish go to the toilet.

Their toilet is fine...I don't think it is parasites - have seen that in other fish and there is no sign of that.

He may have injured himself but it is hard to tell, there is no sign other than the bent spine. There has certainly been no sign of any problems with him up until now.

Bless him.
How old is he.

if theres a possibilty hes got TB do not put your hands in the water if you have cuts, and dont siphon incase you swallow some water, cuz that would be bad.

Thanks for the link Wilder. After reading up on that, I don't think it is the cause of the bent spine - as the fish had no problems yesterday and today its spine is bent. Seems a little too sudden to be skeletal issues.

I am thinking it maybe an injury. The two Rams in the tank picked on each other quite a bit, and one of the rams was always chasing all the other fish at feeding time. Maybe one of the angels or the discus had enough of being chased, and after all they are much larger than the ram, so breaking its spine wouldn't be so hard for them to do.

I've put it down now - best to ease its suffering. Shame.

that happened to my platy 2-3 days ago and is still alive breathing and trying to move

If the fish look like there suffering I would end there life.
Must be awful trying to move, the kindest thing to do is end it for them.
