as the title says, I've just got myself a new camera and I've been playing with the settings - trying to find one that takes good shots of the fish and the tank!

So, apologies for the photo heaviness but I guess that's what this section is for right? I've also had to upload from photobucket because the forum uploader won't let me without decreasing the image which means decreasing the quality. I don;t see a point to that

Here we go then

Hope you all liked the show. That's all folks

they've been kissing and snuggling all day. I suspect she's cultivating some eggs again

Great photos.

I'd like to  know the brand and model of the camera you're using.  I can't get good pictures with my camera.  Fantastic pictures.

the camera is a Nikon Coolpix L830 ... and don't be fooled. I had this idea that buying a better camera would make me a better photographer ... it didn't! I still take hundreds and move 75% to the recycle bin!!

Before this new camera I had a little Canon powershot A560 - this one is just a little point and shoot compact but it had an aquarium setting which I used all the time. It took great shots but I wanted to move on to a bridge camera and learn more and maybe become more experienced. This Nikon doesn't have an Aquarium setting :( ... the shots I took last night were taken on Auto with macro switched on.

I spent yesterday downloading and printing the manual .. it's 204 pages thick!!! A bit of bedtime reading perhaps lol

Am I likely to become David Bailey's assistant any time soon ... er that would be no lol

here's two that I forgot to add

Just wow. The pictures are great, and the fish are lovely.
Some day I will have to break down and get a real camera...if I want to show Mrs. doodle how to operate it every time she uses it.(I still get "Fix my phone", what did you do to it?, "I don't know.")

thanks everyone :D

the trick seems to be to photograph them later in the day after they've been fed and are more relaxed. I've worked out that you need close the blinds/curtains, close all the doors, turn off the tv and the computer so that no light is getting into the room and then you need to switch on Macro, switch off flash, set the white balance to auto and if there's an option to switch on anti camera shake then do that aswell. The rest for me is just a case of taking lots of photo's. Some are going to come out blurred when your photographing moving objects but some will come out okay just cos I got lucky!

The manual suggests using sports mode but I didn't like it. I preferred the control of auto mode

thanks :D The nerite was easy ... it wasn't moving much lol

This is fantastic. Congratulations on the amazing aquarium.

thank you lukyjay :D very nice of you to say so. It's looking a bit sad at the moment though. I need to clean the glass and have another prune and I really need to top up the sand too .... I lack motivation at the moment lol
