My friend has given me an ornament for my tank its a big tree, but the trouble is he had lots of algae growth in his tank and the tree now has green over it.Ive put it into a bucket of hot water (no chemicals)and scrubbed it but it scrubs off the brown bark colour aswell which I dont want it to.My question is would I be able to have it in my tank and for it to be safe for my fish?

Thanks
NN

The algae won't cause your fish any harm and if it was made for an aquarium I'd think the colouring on it would be fish safe.

Oh so the algae is not just at the top? Its all over it? Any kitchen scrubbing sponge should do it. A new one that wasn't used for anything else. Just gently.

If you dried out the decoration, and put it into a complete black out the algae would die in a matter of days. Then it should rinse right off easily, or with mild scrubbing.
