Beauty Is In The Eye Of The Beholder

Ps: what is the scientific name and how big do they get ?

His scientific name is Lactoria cornuta

He is a big beasttie :hey:

What a beautiful fish - you dont need anything else in there
Thanks for looking that up! I've been pre-occupied with fry over here. One of my betta albi's decided today was the perfect day to spit out his fry, and I was unprepared. Move these to this tank, and this group to that tank...set up another tank, go buy a new ten, blah.

I'm thinking it's just enough with him in there too! He just fills it out so nicely.

Thanks for the tanks shots! :D Now I have a better picture in my mind! He does make it look a little more "full"! :D

Very nice fish. I want a marine tank so bad. There is a really good saltwater fish store around here and everytime I ride by it, I want one more and more. Then I come on here and see fish like this and it really makes me want one :good:

yeah well, in this case I suppose it depends on how well you like your flooring and furniture, because this guy has been spitting water everywhere. I just realized what the heck it was last night. At first I found water all over my endtable beside the tank. His seaweed was sitting there and the outside of the package was soaked, and I noticed long streaks all over trhe side of the tank...and my chair, and the carpet. A finger to mouth test proves that it was/is saltwater on the table. I haven't seen him do it, but he obviously is...
I wish I knew how to upload video!

Hah, he's awsome Wuv. I had a really cool image of a full grown one before, i can't find it now though. I think that lumpy growth thing around his mouth grows really big, reminded me of the elephant man. :D

Great Cowfish Wuv. On RC I was reading that their toxin in their skin won't be as disasterous to the tank so long as you run a lot of carbon and a big skimmer. Also, I know someone who keeps them with mushrooms fine, but I remember him telling me that mostsoft/LPS corals were nipped at, espically zoa's and bubble corals.

Awesome fish, Wuv! I loooove him! I've wanted one ever since I saw one at my LFS 4 years ago. The face is just precious. *wanders off in her own cowfish dreams*

Oh, and congrats on the Albis! My Coccina are gearing up to spawn again...but that's another story. :)

yay! The board is back!
Anna, congrats on your coccina babies  I gotta tell you, I'm not even impressed with the albi's anymore, all they do is reproduce! But, by stroke of dumbluck- late Saturday night I was STILL rearranging and I checked the filter in my kapuas tank and found 20+ babies in there! (not in the filter, just the tank) I was SO excited since they've only ever bred once for me in the past and produced two, now adult, females who still live in the tank. Apparently it rained two weeks ago, because everyone got busy!

Guppydude, I'd like to see a full grown one!

sF05,thanks, it does have good flow, but I think I need a powerhead aimed behind the rock on the left side for debris stirring reasons. Just to keep the flow going.

AMS, that's good to know. A good skimmer is my next investment.

Chac, I do have photobucket (love it!) my problem has always been uploading the video. It always goes straight into my photo folder and comes out as a still. I'll work on it a bit more.

Hey! it looks like a pokemon!

a cowfish? oh my god! what a brilliant fish! look at that face! XD fantasticly cute

Cowfish are so cool!!! My LFS has them :D

My best friend used to have one for about 3 years but unfortunately an Ammonia spike killed it and it polluted the tank killing all the inhabitants in there (I believe they release a poision when they die). I will definatley be looking at getting one when my marine tank has matured a little :)
