That's what I just did. It works, but you have to wash it really well, otherwise you get really cloudy water for a while. (I learned that the hard way)Snuff said:Yes, and it's super cheap. I bought a 50 lb. bag for just under 3 dollars US. It works great!parker313 said:If you want sand, but the lfs sand is $$$, try play sand for sandboxes or pool filter sand available at pool supply shops or DIY stores.
I did that but i lost half of my sand when i did it. One of my friends suggested putting the sand in a pillow case and then washing that sand so that the sand stays in the pillow case but the dirt and water goes out. I'll try that tommorrow.Snuff said:How are you washing it?
When I got mine, I put it into a 5 gallon bucket. I took a hose and just plunged it into it. Once the bucket started to overflow, I just moved the hose around and let the water pressure stir the sand, and everyone once in a while I stuck my arm in to stir it really good. After about 15 minutes it was pretty clear. I poured out as much water as I could, and called it done. I didn't have any clouding problems with that.
Good luck.
