I went out and finished up my Christmas shopping this morning. Afterwards I swung into my lfs to give a friend of mine something. I hee hawed around and chatted for awhile with the managers wife and my friend. I'll admit I'm not their best customer, I spend very little money in there but every now and then I make large purchases, the fact remains that I am commited to them and if I ever need anything they're the first place that I go.

Last week I brought in a large can of cookies that I had picked up for them as a Christmas gift. And in turn they refused my money for the fish food I was buying  , that was sweet and and unexpected

So this morning we're talking and Mrs.Ly says to me
"You better get that chocolate off the door or it will melt"

I replied with "What are you talking about crazy lady??"

And she told me to look at my front door when I get home, I hardly ever go out the front door...I usually use the garage. So I got home and on my front door was a beautiful Christmas arrangement in a hanging basket and a box of sea shell shaped chocolates

Simple...but by far the best Cristmas present I'll get this year  (I won't tell my hubby that, after all he bought me the 120 as an early Christmas present) ,it was such a surprise and so unexpected..I'm still shocked

I wish everybody had a lfs as fantastic as mine is

I hee hawed around

:kira: Yer such a country girl. :p

(I won't tell my hubby that, after all he bought me the 120 as an early Christmas present)

I see blackmail in your future.

What a beautiful story, Kelly. It pays to be kind to others. :)

lol @ country girl. What sucks is...I'm a native New Yorker and I could just beat my own ass sometimes when I say stuff like that :*)

But in my defense....I don't say "ya'll" or "ain't" , I won't let myself be hillbillified like that! :p

And it does pay.... I don't mean in material things. It was just so awesome that they thought about me, it made me love them even more

*wipes a tear*

It really pays to be nice to EVERYONE. This is something I try to do year round if I can and pay attention to it. This year I was especially kind and really went out of my way to do "random acts of Kindness" throughout the year. Not only does it make everyone affected feel great, YOU feel great. I am so happy this Christmas, and I just had a few major emotional blows in the past week. But being kind and thoughtful has helped me to maintain a bit of sanity at a very difficult time.
Some of the cool things I did this year are;

Signed up the store I am a buyer at as a Toys for Tots drop off center. We collected THOUSANDS and THOUSANDS of dollars worth of toys. We were very slow the past few weeks, and all the employees have been down, but everytime the door opened and it wasn't a customer, all the employees smiled. They felt great that there was such kindness and generosity in this big bad world.

I sell PartyLite Candles. We had a special last fall on these sample boxes where we could buy a set of 20 different candles scents with a holder for $5.00. I bought about 50 of these and gave them to everyone I come into contact throughout the year. A small token of appreciation for the hairdresser that works so hard, the gas attendants, the girls at Dunkin Donuts, The girls at the bank, post office etc.
The lady up the street that is getting Alzheimers{hope she doesn't forget she lit them!}
While I was giving them out and making everyone else happy I was able to forget the awful things that had happened in the recent week.

We did Secret Santa at our church for 4 very needy kids. This included buying clothes, snowsuits, boots, shoes, underwear, socks, toys, candy, etc to the tune os about $200.00 per kid. I felt very blessed to be able to do this and know they would be warm, dry and happy on Christmas because of our giving. Again, it made me forget what had just happened.

There is this other church up the street from where we live. We went on a toy spree at Toys are Us and filled numerous trash bags with toys for the poor.

Amazing how helping others helps us, huh? My stepfather used to say........it's too bad people couldn't act the way they do at Christmas all year long. This is the way God intended us to act always..................I tried to do this this year in his honor. I hope wherever he is he knows this.

Sorry to ramble. Wuvs post really made me think.

Practice Random Acts of Kindness all through the year.

Thats lovely Wuv, my lfs are being very good to me now I'm getting to know them better, they even refuse me entry to their fish room when they realise that I have no money!! ;) IMO, THAT is kind!! hehe!!

Debo, thats a lovely story too, you sound like a really nice person! :D

For me (I'm not particually religious) Christmas is about families and thinking about those that are less fortunate...I always moan and gripe about being penniless, but yet I do still have a roof over my head and can afford to eat everyday, so therefore I am more fortunate than a lot of people. I regually give money to the local hospital, but your Toys for Tots idea sounds great..

I couldnt agree more! :D

Happy Christmas people!

I know of only one of my many lfs's I go to that are quite nice indeed too, they are willing to trade anything and took a discount off my catfish I bought today just for the christmas occasion, and when we go every now and then we just have a talk and all. It really is good to have people like that around - thanks for bringing the topic up Wuvmybetta!

I would love to be able to do this, or something like it. It's so hard though, because I'm a college student, and, well, I really don't have much (if any) "extra" money. Pretty much all of what I have goes to paying bills and/or food. I do try to put whatever change I have in my pocket into the Salvation Army thingies as I walk by, or do things like that. When I'm out of school and have some "extra" money, I plan to get toys and such for things like Toys for Tots.

I'm house-sitting for some friends right now and they left me half-dozen or more present under the tree, as well as a stocking full of stuff. It was so sweet! I don't know the people *too* well, but I'm very close friends with some friends of theirs. I appreciate them leaving the presents for me :) They're lovely people

Merry Christmas, all!

There's a shoe store in Dallas that takes contributions of shoes all year long and then at Christmas time they open up a temporary shop and allow the homeless to come pick out shoes , I think that is such a fabulous idea, I love it. I think we'll contribute to something like that next year rather than the angel tree -_-

There's a church here in Ft.Worth that does the same thing with toys. Then they send out invitations to families in low income neighborhoods and they come to the "shop" and do their Christmas shopping for their kids

pssst~ Merry Christmas!!

Wuv,
If you could send me the address for the place with the shoes and the toys I would love to clean out some closets here. My grown girls take after their Grandmother-Imeda Marcos!!!!!! Also, know someone that has a ton of toys to clear out. We could mail them.

I think thats an AWESOME idea about the shoes. There really are some great people in the world, aren't there?
