Hey,

Bored so thought i'd post some pics of the dog im getting :D The're just pics of the breed, not of my exact dog obviously, that hasn't been born yet

We're going to some shows to see the breeders dogs to make sure we definately want one, and to spend some time with the dogs, but they look SO cute! I want one

It'll be mainly a pet, but im planning to show it a little, and maybe do some agility! :hyper: They're a little harder to train than some breeds but they can be really good :)

And for anyone who doesn't know anything about them.. They're one of the oldest breeds known, they're fairly small (about 17" i think) and they come from South Africa where they're used as herding and hunting dogs i believe  Ooh, and they dont bark, they yodel!

Anyway, here's a red and white one, which is the colour im hoping to get..

And a black one, which is the colour the dad will be :)

Aren't they cute?! :D

I think it would be very cool to have a dog that "yodels"
They are very cute doggies!

Oooh we looked into basenjis' before we got our two cavs.

They are gorgeous, the pups would be adorable!

 Yodelling puppies...

i have wanted one for a long, long time. someday i will get one as well. i think they are cutest things, and of course not barking is a plus (but i think the dog i have right now does enough for the two of them) and yes they are accually called african barkless dogs.

Those are cool dogs. The actor Kelse Grammer (fraiser) has 2 or 3 of those...I got a calender from a pet store with celeb's and their pets lol.

They seem like great dogs, good luck with yours.

Just because they don't bark doesn't mean they don't make other noises. I hear that the Basenji's scream is very interesting. They are reputed to be extremely vocal. Seriously, though, I hope your dog is great. I have admired the breed for some time, though I don't keep them. Congrats on your soon to be new dog.

Well, it looks like i wont be getting my basenji :-(

We went to a show a couple of days ago to see them and meet some breeders, and after talking to people it seems they're not right for us.. They cant be let off the lead at all, which is no good for us as we're in the country and our dogs are never walked on a lead. They also need a very high and solid fence around their garden, which is pretty much impossible as my garden is mostly my horses field which is nearly a mile long... Too much fencing

Ooh, and they'd attack and kill our chickens and parrots, and wouldn't get on with our cats..

Looking into a Norwegian Elkhound.. Or a Pug :hyper:

Pug Pug Pug ! A very good friend of mine has one and she is just adoooooorable  (called Beatrice or "B" as her nickname).

Though they are almost untrainable so good luck ! ;)

I have Labs!! Untrainable dogs dont scare me!!

But really.. Do you honestly need to train a pug?! You carry them everywhere dont you!

There was a 12 week old puppy at our ringcraft class last night and it was THE cutest thing ever and i totally fell in love with it.. Though at £1000 it may be a little out of my price range for a while..

uh yikes that's a bit much  Luckily my friend is a vet nurse and knew the breeder very well so called in a favour and got a gorgeous pup (pick of the litter too!) that would usually sell for £700, for free :hyper:

but yes, she does carry B everywhere - those cute little stubby legs, lolling tongue and rolling eyes are too adorable - and this is coming from a "big dog person!"

wow! i cant believe how ridiculously expensive pugs are in the uk!
theyre like rats over here...(well, i see at least one a week)

be sure to check a rescue first though..you never know what you may find :)

I think Jess is more into showing and such and that's why she wanted a Basenji - so though there are loads of pedigrees at rescue centres, they don't have the lineage to show :)
Unless she's changed her mind of course ;)
