Barbs

Everyone always say tiger barbs are fin nipper but i was wondering if that is the same for cherry barbs, golden barbs, exc.

Cherry barb and gold barb are not known as fin nippers and the ones I have are totally peaceful.I used to have rosy barb and they didnt seem to bother anything in the tank either but I took them back as I think they were eating the plants.Checkered barb are also a peaceful barb but I wasnt sure whether they ate plants or not so have never bought any

There are literally hundreds of species of barb. Most are totally peaceful, accepting the normal rules of not keeping fish of vastly different size together. Cherry and Golden Barbs are both totally inoffensive fish, although male Cherry Barbs may fight, they are not a shoaling fish and are best kept as a pair, or trio, one male 2 females.

Tiger Barbs paint the whole group with a bad reputation, it is most unfair.

The reason I asked was while I was at my Aunts for Christimas. She was emptying her 10 gallon and asked if I wanted her fish which she was going to give to a Pet store chain. I ended taking the fish which were black neons and cherry barbs. I was worried the cherry barbs would tear up my angels fins. So thanks for the info hopefully they will do well in my tank.
