Hi ppl,

Does anyone else have these little critters? If so, do you ever see yours????????

The most i see is a feeler or a leg poking out from under a piece of wood or a rock. Are these guys mostly noctural?

As you can tell i did no research on these before geting one, just saw it and wanted it. After consulting my excellent LFS i took him home and called hij 'Bob' :D

Nah, but tempted to get a couple myself.

I wouldn't be surprised at them going through your substrate hunting for tasty morsels, and leaving the odd bit of body sticking out. I know they aren't shy.

:p

I just got one a week ago. They use their appendage "fans" for feeding. They eat algae and will appreciate the occasional algae wafer. They don't eat as much detritus as non-fan shrimp such as ghosts.

Mine is out and about often - but shrimp often hide when they are molting, so maybe he's doing that.

The other day I noticed mine standing under the current and holding out his fans, occasionally swiping them over his mouth. Obviously, he was eating someting in the water. I did a bit of online research and found a few folks who say they eat diatoms, and I think that was what he was doing.

They're pretty neato. Enjoy yours.

These shrimp are mostly filter feeders (hence the fan appendeges). So they will often sit in a current. My Wood shrimp (probably the same as a Bamboo) sits above my bubble want and filters away. It is only luck that I can see him, as his hiding spot is near one side of my tank. Before I redecorated he was rarely out. Most all shrimp are primarily nocturnal. If you wait about 20 minutes after lights out at night, you will probably spot him exploring your tank. I use a flashlight (until I can set up a moonlight system) to find him. He usually swims away from the beam, but if I aim it right (a little to the side of him) I can watch him pretty well.
