hi, im going to get a bamboo shrimp for my tank as i think it will be a great addition, and was wondering do they help with the tanning in water from bog wood? if not i dont mind just a question i'd thought i'd ask out of interest

Do you mean reducing the effects of the tannins? If so then no, they sift out small particles from the water, not chemicals unfortunalty.
Or do you mean incresing the effects of the tannins? Again no.

Two ways to remove tannins from your water. Frequent 25% PWC's or adding fresh chemical filtration (carbon or Purigen or other advanced chemical filtration). Remember that carbon is only good for about 2-3 weeks before it needs to be discarded/replaced. I haven't used carbon in a few years since I do weekly PWC's on my tanks but I have started using Purigen in recent months since I've been impressed with all of the info that I've found on it from long term users.

its worth remembering though, that inverts, and most fish, will quite like the tannins in the water!

Yeah, it's mostly aesthetic, though it's worth noting that tannins can also lower the pH of your tank water. Either way, if you want to get rid of them, purigen works like a charm.
