My LFS are selling "Rock Mountain Shrimp", which look like Bamboo Shrimp. I am considering them fo my tank, which houses dwarf cichlids and a Severum. There is quite a lot of bogwood in there and a lot of plant cover.

How hardy are these shrimp? Can they defend themselves?

Thanks.

These shrimp can grow quite large and prefer if your tank has a good current.

I've seen ones at around 2.5" in my LFS

I own one of these and their lovely - i don't do anything special to keep him - just made sure he had a spot near the filter he could sit on and "collect" his dinner. Mine sits on a overhanging amazon sword. They do forage on the ground, but apparently it's a sign their not getting enough food. I keep him with guppies and catfish, mines about 3 inches but hes only about 5 months old. I'd check the aggression of your fish, but the shrimp itself is not hard to keep. (pets at home stock them in coldwater tanks with goldfish, so they must be pretty hardy!)
