i have a 20 gallon tank with 2 bala sharks. 1 is 3 or 4 " long and the other is maybe 2 or 3" (both same age, about 1 year old) i just bought a black ghost knife and i was wanting to know if this will be a problem the person at the store said it shouldn't be. it i keep the ghost well fed with tropical fish flakes and freeze dried blood worms and every once and a while frozen blood worms will the ghost leave the sharks alone?

also on another note my smaller shark seems to not be fed or something beucase his head is is just a bit bigger than his body. when i got the fish 1 year ago there was 4 but 2 died from i would say not eating becuase again there head was bigger than there body.

THanks for help

Hi. I have two bala sharks and a ghost knife fish about 23cm long and i have no problems at all.

well that is good news and makes me more hopeful. what size tank do you have and do you have anything else in the tank? has your ghost knife eaten any other fish? what do you feed it and how many times a day? what size are you bala sharks?

Two Possibilities

1. Theres a bit 'o fishin goin on :dunno:

2. Perchance it isnt fishin, you guys realise that both these types of fish grow well over 12"/30cm :eek:sama:

How large is the knife right now? I've never had a problem with them, sharks are docile, but can fend for themselves well enough in my experience.
And err, tropical fish flakes & freeze dried bloodworms? I'd say there's a decent chance of him not touching these foods until he gets used to frozen bloodworms in the first place. Ahh, and he might be a bit slower at eating then the sharks, so make sure he does get his fair share.

Erm, on a different note, I believe BKGs can get quite a bit bigger, and since your bala sharks will as well, the 20gallon will be a bit
cramped. Actually, a lot a bit cramped. Are you investing in a larger tank sometime soon?

i haven't a clue what your talking about...

i would like to upgrade to a 50 or 55gallon. but not any time soon. how fast do they grow? even though its still a small tank those 3 are the only fish inside. i was told for every inch you should have 1 gallon of water. do you have a 50 gallon? if so how much did you spend to get it set up? i think for my 20 gal i spent 200 or 300, don't quite remember. i have tried and had some success ( i haven't had him long enough to call it that) at hand feeding the ghost. what should i be feeding it and the sharks? frozen blood worms? and how much do i feed them. the packages i have seen have cubes so should i give them 1 or 2 a day? is there any kind of prep i should know about defrosting? saute with a light butter sauce?

note: sorry about any grammer or spelling its 4 in the morning.. also i suck at grammer to start with...

Min tank size for bala sharks is 6 x 2 x 2, preferably bigger (ie 8 x 3 x 3). And that's feet, not centimetres. They also need to be in groups of 5 or more.

BGK get to nearly 2ft, so do you think they'll be ok in a 20g or a even a 55g?

I know it's easy to believe everything a LFS tells you, but you have to remember they're only interested in making a sale, and how hard is it to research your fish before you buy them? And if you've got the internet, which you obviously have, have you not tried doing a google search for more info on their care? Even the species guides here could tell you that neither tank would be big enough - just have a search of the many other threads on BGKs too ;)
