Hi all,

please help, i just got home to find that my shark has wedged itself in an opening in an ornament. I tried my best to get the fish out of the whole gently but it must have got itself stuck in there bad. I did get it out but the fish lost a lot of scales and possible damage further below that. It is still alive but upside down in the tank on the corner. I have a feeling it is beyond repair and it may be best to put it out of its pain. Has anyone got any ideas on how long i should leave it?

If its that bad and you are up to it, use 10 drops per litre of water of clove oil till it stops breathing and then severe the spinal column with a knife. Alternativley, get some ethanol from a farm shop/chemist and use that instread os clove oil, that will kill it.
Please dont freeze it to death, going into hyperthermia and then dying is not a nice way to go

ok give the fish a chance first, when fish suffer bad scrapes they can go into shock and look like they're gonna die.... but quite often will pull through.

test your water and make sure it is pristine, if not do a water change (very gradually so as not to shock the poor thing) to bring water quality back to where it should be.

start treating with melafix it's a great tonic that helps to heal wounds, scrapes etc and helps stop secondary infections from developing.

take the ornament concerned out of the tank and check all your other ornaments to make sure they're sized suitably so your tanks occupants won't get stuck in them.

keep your fingers crossed! :)

thanks for that, have given the shark some time, it has moved around a bit but always upside down. So it doesn't look too good at the moment

Sounds like he's damaged his swim bladder sorry.

Hi guys,

just to let you know that he didn't make it through the night.

Thanks for the help all the last few hours.

Sorry bless him R.I.P.
