I was looking at my fish tank earlier and I noticed a baby balloon molly sitting and resting on a leaf (I knew it was born today because I JUST redid my tank this morning and had taken out all of my fish...well I was watching the suspected mother and saw a wee one pop out! And then I watched as my shrimp caught it and slowly and painfully started eating it...bit by bit...this happened 4 more times (except my fish ate them) and I did what I told myself I wasn't going to do :-( The next one that popped out almost got sucked in, its tail got nipped, but then I scooped it up and put it in a tupperware filled with tank water (as I don't have an extra tank) So then I got the mother and put her into the breeder net and started scooping out babies as they came and putting them in the tupperware...I have 4 at the moment... I couldn't stand watching any more get eaten knowing i could have done something :-( So as soon as the mom is done giving birth I will take her out of the net and put the babies that are in the tupperware into the net....I think I am going to try to get a small 5-10 gallon tank up and running and instant cycle it soon so that I can move the fry into there :)

good luck with those! I have to disperse of mine as soon as they are old enough...they range from 1 day old to 1 month old - a mixture of balloon mollies and guppies...hopefully I will be getting a new 20 gallon very soon that I can raise them in

Lol I can't help it either except I probably would have caved before you did. My husband & I talked quite a bit about if we wanted to buy a small fry tank or let nature take it's course. We decided we weren't going to buy one & just bought more plants to try & create hiding places. Then I noticed my guppy acting weird & put her in a net breeder. An hour later I had 28 babies. We decided them to buy another tank & luckily went for 20g cause I found 3 platy fry the next day & last night netted another platy. I am unsure how many fry she had but I would be shocked if it's less than 50. Tomorrow will be 28 days since my guppy gave birth so good chance I might end up with more guppy fry as well. Good chance that our fry tank will have over 100 fry in it in 2wks or less lol. I'm waiting at least a week before I move the new fry because my previous platy fry & a few of the guppies are pretty big.

I know I need to stop stressing over every single fry cuz I'm going to be overloaded soon. I have 4 female platys, 3 of which are pregnant & my 1 pregnant guppy & a pregnant swordtail. Maybe once I am no longer pregnant I can let nature take it's course a bit more :p

haha it's so hard when you know those cute little things are going to be eaten! :-( I have 30 fry in the tank right now and right now I'm worried about ONE becuase I thought I hac 8 in the net and I only see seven... :p I am going to probably go out and buy another 20 gallon after I just spent more than 180 dollars on my TEN gallon! Good luck with those babies! And YOUR baby! :)

Yes, last night my husband bumped the net breeder & it came loose. We caught it before most got loose but there were quite a few babies in the water. I started freaking out & grabbed the net to start trying to catch them. Luckily they were smart & hid up in the corner by the powerhead but I think one of my goby's may have eaten one cause I saw it chasing one as I was trying to get the net. Then one got squished (I seriously almost cried) while I was trying to catch them. I was soo tired from being up so late waiting for them to finish being born but here I was hunched over, killing my back with my fish water just about up to my elbows for at least 30min til I made sure I caught every single fry that I saw that got loose lol.

Thankfully we opted for the 20g so except for fish food there is nooo plan to spend anymore money on fish stuff lol.
