i have a 20 gallon tank with lots of hiding spaces and:

1 gold gourami (2")
1 blue gourami (2")
1 dwarf gourami (2")
1 baby bronze cory (6/8")
1 baby spotted cory (6/8")
1 baby peppered cory (6/8")

the problem is that my blue gourami keeps chasing and biting all of everyone.
should i return him and try another fish and chop that one up to the individual fish or is there something different about their temperment?

The think with the Blue and Gold Gouramies that you have is that they are a color morph of eachother. Blues are notorious for not playing nicely as are the golds. I would take those two back to the lfs and get another 3-4 dwarfs or some kind of tetra and just have the one dwarf gourami.

I did have three dwarf gourami, but due to a few heated exchanges one died about a fortnight ago from injuries and another this morning. Shame because they were a beautiful looking trio.

I find that my Golden Gourami picks on my Opaline (who is a total victim, spends his days picking at the plants minding his own), but that the dwarves just picked on each other. They were all males so this was maybe a territory thing. I think it's a good idea to have lots of hiding places though, I think I may need to increase the number in mine.

I would say the golden is the most visibly agreessive of mine, but it's all show - he doesn't do any actual damage, while the dwarves were nippy and sneaky with it! :grr:

RIP Mr Dwarf Gourami with the nicest stripes.

my gouramis dont bother anyone, my golden just swims around on his own doing his own little thing. i too recently lost a gourami, my 3 spot one :rip: but none of mine were bullying. maybe you got a mad one??? :dunno:

.....sooooooo.............
i should take back my blue and gold gourami (even though my blue is the only problem) and replace them with dwarf gourami...... even though they might kill each other...............
i'm confused........
shouldn't i just bring back the blue and get a new one and hope for a better personality?

 i'm gunna hold my breath till i get this settled

I would. I am having alot of trouble with my gouramis right now. The 2 Blues, The Gold and the Paradise Males are picking on the Female Opaline and Paradise. They also almost killed my kissing gourami. I had to move him to another tank. They tank that there in is a heavily Planted 55 Gallon tank with just gouramis and catfish they killed all my Barbs and Livebearers, and my Giant Gourami.

Dwarves and regular gourami should not be mixed because the larger gourami pick on them and thye are more timid. If you have three males no matter what mix you try, even if they are the same gourami, they are going to fight. I would say keep your dwarf and get him some girlies or leave him by his lonesome.

i'm not exactly 100% on how to sex a gourami,
if you could show me pictures (one of a male and one of a female) it would be great so i can compare :D

this is my experience with MOST (not all gouramis)..........they like to chase and nip. I love them but wont keep them anymore, it will either be that they are doing the chasing, or they are being chased, with their little feelers being chomped on. It is too much stress for me to keep them...............I love them so much though...

well ive got all fish u have and they do chase eachother. Well mine do but nothing goes to the extreme so i think u should keep them and see what happend face it they look 2 nice to give up.

The males have a more pointed dorsal fin. The females' is more rounded. I've had trouble with gouramis too. I had a pair of dwarf gourami that were killed by the other regular kinds.

the day i got my corys my gourami was chashing them and the molly but then someone suggested to move the decs around and he kept chasing the next morning their all minding their own buisness and happy... i think corys have some armor and they have really sharp spines in their fins and i heard if you tried to pick one up itll prick you with its fins

thanks 55 gallon dude, but I have kept them for 8 years and just can't anymore. I just want peace in my tanks now.............

yeah my blue male blue gourami attacks everything....ive been told by heaps of places that blue gouramis are the most aggresive gouramis
