:(

New tank setup about six months ago with various rocks, live plants and three pieces of bogwood. Two pieces are relatively flat, however the last piece is kind of an odd barrel shape with lots of character. It also has a couple of holes in it, one of which was quite deep, unfortunately I only found this out two nights ago.
I recently bought 2 three inch clown loaches to go with the pair of smaller ones that are already established.
True to form the new clowns disappeared in to hiding only venturing out once in while. However one of them disappeared for quite a while, and the water started to cloud slightly - PANIC MODE :hyper:
Had to dismantle half of a 200 litre tank to remove this piece of bogwood with the hole and yes my guess was correct, the clown was wedged upside down at the far end of this hole - dead.
Have taken a 13mm hole saw to the back of the bogwood to open out this dead end of a cave.
Lesson for others reading this, make sure your bogwood has no hidden dead ends. Unfortunately I had to learn the hard way

One of my fish got stuck under bog wood and i would've lost him if i hadn't found him. Are you going to buy a new clown loach?

:)
Hi Lynz,

No not yet. Will let the tank settle for a little while. Quite an upset for the whole tank having to remove and then refit a chunk of bogwood. A few plants up rooted too, and the Java moss attached to the bogwood got a bit squished!
Do you ever watch 'Tom & Jerry' cartoon ? Jerry would always hide in large pieces of cheeze, large edam shaped things, well my tank is that shape, but without the holes..LOL
Curved front and deep, 24" (600mm). Up to me armpits I was!

Will see what happens, and let you know.

W

ps Scotland, where ? Me = Fife

Cool me too :D In a town called Glenrotten. (Glenrothes).
:S Your tank is shaped like a piece of cheese?

Yes, a big wedge of cheese!
Probably need to draw a picture cos I'm crap at describing things.
Sizes= 700mm radius, 600mm deep on a large stand.
Quadrant shaped, thats the word I was looking for.

Me fishes are 3 clown loaches, 2 gold gourami's, 2 pairs of dwarf gourami's, 4 albino corys, 7 zebra danios, 2 harlaquins, 1 plec, 1 pair red sword tails, 9 cardinals.

Glenrotten, yes I know why you call it that!!
I'm over the hill in Falkland.

Where do you buy your fish from? I go to Cupar :fish: aquatic centre.
Tempted to buy more this weekend (just been paid).
No must learn to be more patient

How long you been keepin fish?

Reminds me of a bad joke: What do you call a fish with no eyes ?

Astyanax fasciatus mexicanus!
Lol you just being smart. What do you call a fish with no eyes?
I go to ultimate aquatics in cupar too i love it because they look after the fish. I just started my current fish tank in early January which is home to ten danios, 3 different types, all of which i bought from ultimate aquatics. I don't like to buy from anywhere else I'm so afraid I'll introduce disease. I don't trust pets at home, acorn pets etc. Also my danios are already spawing so I'm trying to raise a few fry.
In a couple of months I'm going to buy small cat fish and my main fish will probably be smallish gouramis. Was thinking about dwarf gouramis, noticed you have four are they good fish? Did you buy them from cupar? I noticed they sell male and female together for about £5 odds.
My dad has been keeping fish for years we used to have a big fish tank (cold water) but got rid when he built a pond.
Have you been keeping fish long?
How far away is Falkland? I have no idea where it is I'm terrible

 .............................. fsh..................................

Made me laugh!

On a sour note though, lost another clown loach last night. It was the healthier looking of the two original fish bought. Suspect upsetting the tank stressed it too much, not sure. Two cardinals looking a little poorly!

Ultimate aquatics, mmmm, bought all my fish from there, but have not had much luck so far. Had them test my (tank) water etc, but everything was fine.

I had two tanks in my bedroom many many moons ago when I still lived at home. Never had the kind of problems I am having now :(

Example: When I started the tank up I used six danios, they did really well, so bought another six. All were doing really well, chasing other all over the place, the males turning a goldie colour, loving the frozen blood worms. Then one day one died, and within 24 hours another. I lost all but two of them to the same thing (dont know what it was). The last one to die I took back to UA when it started to show signs of illness. Alison at UA put it quarantine for me and treated it, but it still died and she could not explain why!

Remind me not to ask you for directions?!! Falkland - small village on the road to Auchtermuchty. Go on say it, where's that :p

ps Dwarf Gourami's should do well with danio's.

Aww get the joke now (after about five minutes).
Hmmmmmmm I'm worried mine will start dying now. They appear to be fine just now. They are quite fat and pooping all the time. They must be eating loads of cavier. It must be annoying not knowing whats wrong. I don't know how I will feel when I get my first fish death. :-(
Oh I'm so tempted to go buy some cories on the way home from dundee today. But wanna wait till my tanks hunky dory but can't.
I've nae a scoob where auchtermuchty is either. I think I must be ignorant.
I love this smilie :hey:

after five minutes!

Sorry, but that was funnier than the joke!

 Yes buy some corys, albinos, easy to keep (even for me atm!), and work hard.
A pair would be better. They love frozen blood worms, same as danios.

Dont name your fish individually, makes it more upsetting when they die.

I might go to UA this afternoon to replace my lost clown loaches. If your there, look out for the muppet staring into the clown loach tank (as they race back and forth) trying to choose the best pair!

And no you are not ignorant, perhaps lost :hey: I can see I will need to post you a map! From Cupar to Glenrotten you will go through a roundabout sign posted Falkland Palace. Does that ring any bells ?

Why? :hey:

I like :*) :flowers:

I think clown loaches are so cute when they play dead. When i was in UA there was some kids staring in the tank talking about one that was laying on its back on the bog/drift wood. I was going to tell them it wasn't but they would've probably thought i was weird.
Do you think i could buy cories just now? My tank is about one month old. And because the danios go scoob and form what I've seen, cories go scoob, will getting peaceful gouramis work?
As for directions i don't pay much attention to sign posts they confuse me.
:hey: Its just the eyebrows looks funny.

I could not resist - bought two more 3" clowns on Saturday. Fed the whole tank with blood worms. Every fish gorged themselves, especially the danios. Looked like striped balloons once they had finished.
Lost another Cardinal tetra though.
Still cannot work out what is wrong. Alison at UA says I may need my water tested again <sigh>

My danios dont bother the gourami's and yes I would say its now safe to buy corys.
I have quite a lot of large leafed plants, this helps the gourami's to hide if they need to.

I could not open your danios pic, but that might be because of my works firewall!
Will have to wait until tomorrow night to look at it at home, got uni tonight.

Yup, I'm a poor student like u!!!

:p Go on buy the corys, you know u want too?

Hey I never said anything about being a poor student. :hey:
Danios spawning again. I noticed it was my girl pearl who was ready to spawn so her boyfriend (male pearl) was like you know..... :hey: So while they were getting down to it the dominant male LF zebra kept butting in so they ended up spawning together and I collected the eggs to see if i can get some sort of hybrid Danio hmmmmmmm we'll see.
I'll eventually figure out how to post pics. I have a brilliant one of my girl LF zebra, she's so healthy looking bless her. I will probably buy corys next week when its my turn to drive to uni. Woo hooooo! :fun:
