Tetra Bactozym
Tetra Bactozym capsules are designed to be used to start up new filters, and to act as a booster after filter cleaning or the use of medications that kill bacteria or inhibit their growth. They’re designed to be allowed to dissolve in the tank or to be placed directly within the filter compartment.
Unlike most of the other products here, Bactozym doesn’t actually contain bacteria. Tetra told us: “Research has shown that in most cases preserved bacteria do not make a lot of difference to the maturation process. This is because bacteria will have been cultured under one (or very few) set(s) of conditions, and therefore will take a while to adapt to the conditions in an aquarium.”
Bactozym works by encouraging the growth of naturally occuring bacteria. “It contains biopolymers that create a matrix upon which nitrifying bacteria can rapidly multiply. Nitrifiers will generally start to settle on any inert substrate within half an hour. Bactozym enhances this process.”
For new aquaria the dose rate is two capsules per 100 l./22 gal. added on the first and second weeks. On our 120 l./26 gal. tank this would cost £2.46.
Tetra also recommend a regular
dose of one capsule per 100 l./22 gal. each time the filters are cleaned or replaced. Based on monthly cleaning, in our 120 l. tank this would cost just under £15 a year.
i still stick by what i originally said... its an aid nothing else..
