I have put sol bactinettes in my filter. How long does it take to work? My Nitrite level is 2.0, Nitrate 40, ammonia 0.00

Thanx again Lorna.,

not sure of this product but I'm guessing it is a so called Cycle Aid?

What are you expecting it to do?

Are you doing a fishless or fish cycle?

ah i have read about this product it appears to be good, you are meant to place them in your filter and stock immediately with fish, they are meant to work straight away with only a small ammonia spike, and then settle down really quickly.
i haven't used them my self. good luck :)

I've used these - I must say that for me, they worked, I tested the water after 24 hours and it had perfect levels..... have you got fish in your tank?

This stuff sounds like gold dust to fish keeping (laughs up his sleeve)

My tap water has 40ppm nitrAte, 0ppm ammonia, 0ppm nitrIte. If I add this stuff to it and the stats are the same (near perfect) in 24 hours my tank is cycled?   I think not ;)

If this is right though why have I just wasted 8 weeks on a fishless cycle

Hey, just playing wit ja :kana: I am just very sceptical about this sort of product :hey: :friends:

I have used this to cycle my tank as well. I added fish in a couple of days and my ammonia has been 0 since. Never had an ammonia spike. My nitrite though remains between 0.1 and 0.3 but I suspect this is because I left the bottle standing at room temp for around 8 hours. I can vouch for this product. It has worked great for me :good:

The stats haven't changed since I put it in my filter. I have already got fish in the tank and they have been in there for about a month. I got sick of waiting for the tank to cycle so I bought some of this stuff. I hope it works soon, will keep u posted.

Doresy, I have heard great feedback about this product, it might of seemed like you did waste 8 weeks on fishless cycling???

Hi just to let people who want to know about this product that it is a product that works. I upgraded my tank to 125ltr from a 60ltr so I invested in some more bactinettes. I have 2 filters going with it in the filter media. It has now just finished cycling with ammonia 0.00ppm and nitrite 0.00ppm and nitrate 10ppm in 10 days. Great!!

thankyou it does work, like bio spira (US) it has to be kept refridgerated (to make sure the bacteria stay alive) but it does work. Do you mind me asking where you got yours from?

Cheers,

Alessa

Unlike bio-spira, Bactinettes conatins the wrong bacteria for nitrite oxidisation.

Bactinettes appears to allow you to bypass the ammonia spike of cycling through bringing in line Nitrosomonas bacteria, but does not allow you to bypass the nitrite spike (it contains Nitrobacter instead of Nitrospira) in the same way as biospira. however, for most people in the UK it is as good as you will get.

My tank did have a small ammonia spike about 3 days into it. I got it from Maidenhead aquatics, it is a aquatics chain throughout the UK

I used this product to lower my nitrite and ammonia levels because they were so high.

I have to say...this product is NOT what it claims to be.

This is from personal use however so everyones is different but i used two jars for my tank (because of the size) and it changed NOTHING. I have a well established tank also and used it correctly.

I had to mention this because a few people are raving about this product saying it is actually quite good, but i dissagree. Most of the people i know at the local fish shop have also mentioned that this product didn't do much. They claim it can make your tank "fish safe" within 24 hours. TOTALLY DISSAGREE.

I paid £5.50 each for the jars and bought two for my tank size. I don't think it is worth the money one bit.

p.s. They are kept in fridges but however, once you take it home and the product gets warm (in a bag etc) the "good bacteria" is now dead and can actually die straight away if the product gets the slightest bit warm. Abit useless if your travelling  !
