Hey guys,

I am completely new to the fish scene having recently obtained a 60ltr Hex tank, i made a post and have done some serious reading into fish etc etc, so its been set up 4 days now, filter running, adding chemicals to help, and today i took my water to be tested, and everything came up fine, so i was told i could add 2 / 3 fish to help the cycle along , so i did just that, and BANG all dead within 2 hours, now my tank before i added the fish i done roughly 30% water change added my chems, waited , temp was right and added fish, but like i said they died, now i understand the bacteria bloom is something hats normal and you have to go through it, and various water changes can help you along.

Should i re-add 1 / 2 fish if so which 1's?

or whats the next move?...

Thanks MH

Sounds like to me the fish shop just wanted to make some money. Best option is to buy a liquid based test kit, and test the water your self. For help look at THIS
Don't add any more fish yet, it will be about a month until the tank is suitable.

Hope that helps, Sorry for your loss.

Unfortunately you filter isn't ready to handle the bio load of your fish yet.

Seems strange they died within 2 hours though?? Did you acclimatise them first? what fish were they?

Your tank will take between 6-8 weeks to cycle before the bacteria can grow and deal with the toxins in it which will kill your fish. If you want to do a cycle with fish in (that means have fish in your tank before its mature and ready) you will need to do a 50% water change every single day for 6-8 weeks which is a pain! Best to do a cycle without fish which is easier for you and kinder to the fish.

Whichever method you use you will need a liquid water testing kit as you will need to test your water every day to monitor what to do.
