Backgrounds

Id never thought of painting a tank

what do you use, the same paint for crafts (stain glass windows etc?)

Great idea btw!

I just used black paint that comes in a squeeze jar from the buck store.
used black and painted the glass. washes off with a little elbow grease too, so if i ever want a change its no problem.

worked well.

I just used exterior grade Black Gloss..... waterproof ;)

Only 1 problem... it won't come off if you get bored of it !!! ;)

Took me an hour to paint my 4'6" tank, because I needed to use 3 coats of paint to stop light coming through from behind the tank :)

for my background i use 5% black tint from walmart... it was very easy to do, all it takes is some soapy water on the back of the tank, place the tint on, squilgee the air bubbles out then cut with a razer blade. from the front and it will look black. and it work really well with the magnet cleaner, the tint makes it side better. i also found this to better then paint because you can still see though the tint side with the light on or off, but doesnt let the light out for the most part

Brilliant idea for the background! I'm so sick of the phony one with plants on my 55 gal. Some of it is stuck to the tank making some of it real bright and the rest is not, it's irritating, but now I have the perfect solution! Thanks!

Has anyone ever put the background IN the tank instead of on the outside of the tank? I saw these little 'things' being sold on ebay a couple months ago from over in the UK somewhere that are used to stick the background to the back inside of the tank. Of course, you'd have to be using a background that was waterproof, not paper.
