Finding it hard to keep 5feet of plastic background (the roll up stuff you buy by the metre) stuck to the aquarium evenly and am now giving serious thought to painting the back of the aquarium. Given that this aquarium is for corydoras only, i thought i would ask here: what colors have people painted their aquarium backgrounds? (i imagine corys would appreciate darker colors more)

I've just gone for a black painted background which I really like - with the greenery in front, all the fish, inc corys look great!
Last tank I had the plastic sheet background which I held in place by smearing an even layer of washing up liquid on the tank (careful to keep it external only of course!) then apply the plastic as if applying sticky back plastic - with a damp cloth and care to eliminate air bubbles. Then 2 or 3 pieces of sticky tape at the top corners and middle to take the weight so it doesn't slip down. Does the same job as spray mount without the risk of contaminating the inside of the tank and you can see the background Much clearer through the tank than just having it hung loosely behind.

Can we have a photo please Fish Fanatic . It would be good to see the background and the Corys .

I just buy A1 pieces of black card from hobby craft and secure it to the back of tank.

If I want to change its easy to remove and can be put back on if required. My friend has used blue card which looks quite nice.

I think, you mean me? But you're also a fish fanatic! - I assume its something to do with the number of posts?
I'll have another go - every time I've tried uploading photos, my photo is too large - I'll have to crop one down or reduce the resolution, I think.

On a side note, I don't like seeing tubes etc and need a solution to a whitish airstone tube and my white inlet / outlet pipes for the filter. I've tried to disguise with planting but they're still shouting at me! :-/

Dark colours bring out the fish colours more, I have a black painted background for my 125 gallon, my 75 gallon pictus/oscar tank is purple, my 75 gallon shubunkin/axolotl tank is blue, my 75 gallon peaceful tank is brown, and my 35 gallon livebearer tank is dark green

thanks for replies. PhantomLink - do you have photos of each tank with different color?

oh well, spray painted mine black with cheapish spray cans (the absolute el-cheapo spray paint wouldn't stick) and it looks awesome.

just dont do what i did....simply move tank/cabinet away from wall and do all the spray painting indoors. (i did cover top of tank)

There is (invisible) black dust all over the carpet in several rooms now..and if the carpet gets wet, the carpet becomes black. Turps cleans those patches back to new though...nice to sniff too (in moderation) mmmm

haha, you have any pictures you can post up of your painted background i am interesting in painting my new tnak background black or to use a black sheet of paper i use for my current tank

well after 2-3 weeks, my feet stopped being black every time i walked into the aquarium room.

very happy with the black background.

yes, the spray bar needs to be painted black...got a 2nd one sprayed with black Krylon drying as we type.

yes, i need some more colorful corys to show off the tank...might drop the panda army in there.

But my 6x pepper corys who are 2yrs old...deserved to be in a bigger tank. And my 8x San Juan corys deserve being in decent size tank after serving 5weeks in 10gallon quarantine.

So without further-a-do...

I too would love to see photos of these tanks!

aaw very nice there :) yes i agree to getting the black spray bar :D, white sand looks nice in that tank, in my opinion i would say, needs more plants :D haha

but very nice looking tank i like the wood especially :D

congrats :)

Wow, that spraybar is like a punch in the nose!
Nice wood.
Just use posterboard myself. It's cheap, and easy to change if I have a nervous breakdown and want something like purple.
