I like to use a black background.

I taped a piece of black plastic to the back of one of my tank, into which I can slide any background I like. In fact I can make my own, print pictures off the net, use photos etc etc.

Not at all, try it on a small portion, and you will see the difference, its very good.

No, not if done carefully. It helps stick the background onto the glass and when smoothed out properly to remove excess and air bubbles it really looks like the background is on the inside of the tank.

I assume that with the vaseline, you still have to tape the background to the tank. What do you use that is relatively invisible? I am going to have to put background on one end of my tank too and don't want to have a piece of cellophane tape stuck on the front of the tank.

The absolute best tape is Scotch Invisible.

My sis took a bunch of old national geographics and cut all the coral pics out that she could find. I think she glued them onto some newspaper or poster board. Then she taped them onto the back of the tank. Looks pretty nice.
