hope this helps you guys...

bare in mind tho guys these 2 look huge in the pics..ther a lot smaller than they look :D

First thought would be a hypostomus species, which one i wouldn't know, ive never seen one with white edges to fins but im sure there probably is lol.

Other species possible i guess would be a peckoltia, the only ones off head i can think that would have any semblance to the edges to fins would be L141 and L358 but i really don't think it's either.

Ill stick to a hypostomus for now becasue the head shape 'to me' looks more closely matched i guess lol, possible L87 or L231 but the fin edges still don't match. If it happens to come from this family it will probably follow there traits and get quite big.

found your guy

SULTAN PLECO "L264" (Leporacanthicus joselimai)
notice the tips growing out?? :)

8-1.jpg

FAMILY: Loricariidae
TYPE: Catfish
MAX SIZE: 8" (approx. 20cm)
ORIGIN: South America
DIET: Omnivorous
CHARACTER: Peaceful
MISC: Juveniles have white tips on their fins, which fades to yellow as the animals mature, will eat sinking pellets and vegetables such as cucumber, and relishes meaty foods such as krill

It's not a sultan, firstly sultans don't have a full white strip even at a young age, they pretty much have that same marking as your picture as soon as they are starting to colour up they don't tend to lose it, secondly the shape is completely wrong to the fish.

Ill stand by my original idea of it been a hypostomus species but there are so many that aren't pictured or labeled, it could be any of them.

Edited just to say i re read what i wrote and sounded a bit patronising and rude lol, sorry!!.. i didn't mean it to ;)

well guys...what can i say...

that baby plec never did eat anything in my tank... :(
it hasnt died though so dont worry its gone back to the shop...they cud'nt tell me why it wouldnt eat anything...
at the shop they placed it bck in their tank with the same pleco's and went to me "watch this we know for a fact it will eat this" ....they dropped food in...all the pleco's went straight to the food...lol all except one which swam the opposite direction lol can you guess which one it was lol

anyway its none of them names for that pleco...turns out it was indeed a "white striped pleco" which grows to about 5 inches.

i replaced the baby pleco for a much more beautiful fish..... :D my favourite pleco out of them all....."the royal pleco"
he is a wikid character....and best of all he eats lol
and he's fit well in to my tank.

thing is i didnt know they could reach a size of 17 inches...
so will have to upgrade when he grows bigger lol.
he cost £32.00....i got him for £8.00...BARGAIN!!!!!!

anyway thanks alot for all your help guys much appreicciated
just hope who ever buys the little pleco can keep him alive and well and get him eating :D

Never herd of a white striped pleco so i wouldnt rule out it getting much bigger if the name isnt even correct lol.

Anyways nice alternative you have, long as theres bogwood in the tank for them and you have a big enough tank, good luck with this one.

I reckon, possibly. As you said he's only young, he might not eat much. He may eat whilst your alseep (on algea & plants, so you woudln't know he was feeding. Also my pleco won't eat in light, he prefers to eat at night around 10ish, don't know wether its common for pleco to do so.

(but as you posted, he's moved on so...)

James

i have plenty of bog wood in my tank now for the pleco's

"plecostomus_mad" what size can royal's get to exactly then? as i was told 17 inches maximum! :S
and "james_fish" "he's young and probably wont eat much".....he didnt eat a single thing....not even bck at the shop!
he's belly caved in completly.

but yea he's gone now and has been re-placed by a much better pleco. :D

"white striped pleco" was the CORRECT name for the fish.
and it only grows to 5 inches...
its a dwarf pleco species

there is no guarantee for exact sizes in captivity but i would expect a maximum of 18 inches. it may only reach 15 but expect and make housing arrangements for a 18 inch pleco.

its a dwarf pleco species

It's the correct name because???, the shop told you that it was lol.

What's The L-number?. If the shop or you are so adamant it's a 'correct' name surely the L-Number would be known?. ( you didnt have a clue what it was earlier in the thread and know you know it name and size it gets? lol)

Dwarf species is very vague lol when you don't even know what pleco it is to start with.

Like i said before ive never come across a species called just a white striped pleco lol, that name could 'describe' so many different species and i doubt very much that it would be so generalised as such a name.

So.. before trying to correct me and tell me you know for sure, give a little bit more info rather just hearsay from a shop that clearly doesn't know there stuff.
