How long does it take for baby platies to grow to the size were you can put them in with grown platies?
I have one baby platy (female i think) about 3-4mm big, how old is she?

I put some 3 week olds in with the rest of the community last week and they are absolutely fine. They are about ____ long. Try a couple and see how they get on. So long as they don't fit the size of the biggest mouth in there they should be ok

I just leave my platty/swordtail fri in the community tank with everything else ;)

i know I don't get the highest survival rate in the world, but I get 2 or 3 per batch that grow-out. Which is good enough for me :) Many more and I'd have to find other places for them to go !!!

I just put my platy fry back in the community tank last week. The 4 1/2 month old fry were about 1" long. The 3 1/2 month fry were about 3/4" long.

ok thanks for the info :D , but how old do you think my One baby platy is, shes about 3-4mm big?

I have some 3-4 day old fry and they are about the same size so i am guessing that they are no more than 5 days old.

Just keep the temp high and the food coming and they will be big enough in no time :D

Yes she is eating and pooping, bless her she is the only one. Its amazing she survived in a 30 litre tank with 8 platys and 2 suckers, its also amazing she survived because i transfered all the adults and suckers to the new 180 litre tank and in the proccess uprooted all the plants and stired up all the crap in the tank. I also took the filter out for about 2 hours and put it in the big tank for the bacteria, i only noticed the fry as i was going to turn the light off in the small tank, i thought oh my god! a baby! and quickly put the filter back in.Poor little baby she was sitting in a pool of crap looking staight at me, im so glad i noticed her when i did.
I say her because i can see the small fin under her belly and not a spike like a male. Shes getting bigger by the day, i got my tape measure out this time and she measured about 1/2 inch. :D

Since I got livebearers, EVERY time I do a partial water changes I pour the water out slowly and look for fry. Sometimes there's only a small amount left by the time you discover them. That's how I discovered on platy fry back in November. He/she was the only one of that batch I ever found, but it's still alive and doing GREAT!

Yes i always check for fry in my bucket with a torch, but now im so more paranoid i will scoop the water out the bucket with a see through jug and check it.
Oh please dont say ive thorwn some down the drain

When I have young fry, they all have big anal fins until the boys mature, then the anal fin sort of transforms into the gonopodium.
