Finally got tired of slaughtering millions of baby pandas, so whenever I saw eggs I threw them into my 10 gal. shrimp tank.

Well now I have baby pandas all over the place! I think it's HILLARIOUS that they do better and live long enough to get barbels when I don't mess with them!

Here's a pic of the biggest one. My question is, how old do you think he is (for you cory spawn experts :p ) and if he's made it to this size, has he found something to munch on or can he get this big without being fed? I haven't made an effort to feed the babies, although I do feed the shrimp algae tablets. Also there are a lot little critters swimming around this tank for some reason. (Small dotty looking things particularly, probably daphnia)

Thanks for all the help!!

:yahoo: Congrats Dakota. I told you, you'd finally get it right. I'd say looking at the pic that the fry is about week or so old. You'll find that it's been eating inforsia which is in a well established tank. They are scavengers so they do root around and eat what ever left over food they find. They are probably eating left over algae tablets, our older corys LOVE them. :hyper:

I'm not sure if they are old enough to eat daphnia, as we have some in our baby breeding net and they are still there. Mind you, they breed all the time and I think the daphnia babies are small enough. Just not 100% sure.

Anyway. Well done. You'll be shocked how quick these little things grow. Ours are just over a month, probably 5 weeks now and are spitting images of their parents. Keep up the good work and keep us updated.

Keep well, Carmen :D

Thanks! I'm glad he's made it a week. I'm so happy!

So he'll be fine on his own? I didn't want to take him out of the shrimp tank for fear of stressing/killing him, but if he's going to starve in the 10 then I want to take him out.

Looking at him again, I thinks he's probably closer to 2 weeks old. I wouldn't move him. He is doing fine in that tank, obviously getting enough to eat. In our experience of moving fry, it's best to leave them wherever they are thriving. We moved some of our bronze fry once, and lost about 75% of them!!! It was devastating  But, you only learn from mistakes.

How many have you got in the tank, or is it too difficult to count them. I'd say we have about 20-30 of different ages now. Some still in the breeding net, as they only hatched a couple of days ago.

He is probably eating some of the algae pellets you feed the shrimp and definately inforsia. Have you got any live food for him? Either microworms or brine shrimp. As I said before, I'm not sure if small cory fry can eat daphnia. But I have seen them eat microworms (which I feed ours exclusively) and baby brine shrimp (which we've only done a few times).

Keep well, and well done. You are obviously doing something right.
Speak soon, Carmen :D

Hi Dakota

How is that little baby panda doing? I'm sure he's getting big by now (even though it's only been a week). Our oldest babies which are not even 2 months old yet, are already 1.5cm long!!! :hyper: Our pandas are still at it. I did manage to get quite a few eggs last night, and our tank is looking more like a panda fry tank than a bronze fry tank  .

Keep well and speak soon
Carmen :D

Hey!

I haven't seen the panda in there for the past few days. I'm sure he's fine, I'm lucky to see him when I actually do. The tank is over run with java and x-mass moss.

The last time I saw him, his top fin (not sure what its call, lol) was very defined. His eye band is really noticeable, not so much the tail band, yettt.
