Baby Lobster Pics

10 gallon minimum for one if it is the lifetime tank of the lobster. will want a heater and filter (especially for a male mine hates being cold he gets all pale). They will eat anything mine get shrimp pellets algea tabs cucumber leaf lettuce. Some people recomend occasionaly feeding them shrimp tails for the calcium. Also it is good to do a half dose of marine iodine once a week(remove carbon for 24 hours) it helps keep them healthy during molts.

Look up general care sheets on them they are relatively low maintnance. I was realy bad at keeping my water perfect early on and my crays were teh first fish I owned getting into the hobby both are still alibe and well. When your realy consider thier natural habitat it make sense that they are tanks. in the wild most live in drainage ditches, small streams, wetlands... all of which are of course polluted as all heck these days.

how did u get them to breed? is there a way to determin the sex of them? i just got a blue crayfish today hes so adorable. and so are those babies

thanks :). I'll look into it don't worry :).

They are a lot of fun to watch. :)

My boyfriend has fancied one for ages so we might have to look into getting one.

What tank size do you recommend for one and what is the best thing to feed them?

no good for you, Dipsy. you cant keep these in the UK.

the one you can keep, here, is the Australian Redclaw. Cherax quadricarinatus.
they NEED 20 UKG minimum tank size. as the only (so far found) tropical Cray fish. its happy at 75-90f
Redclaws will need very clean water, with a high 02 content.
take a look here.

though its hard to see. the little critters here are P Allani. a Temperate, North American, Crayfish.
Oh, they could also be P Clarki. you see there is no such thing as an Electric Blue Crayfish. thats just a name given to crays offered for sale.

:( You can ge blue lobstery/crayfish from the shop. Don't know what they are though. As I said we've not looked into it as such, but IF we do get one of whatever it is we will do our homework and take pics for an ID before we get one :)

lol. the Redclaw is also known as a Blue Lobster. no other types, should, be sold in the UK.

but dont buy till you have an ID. if it isn't a Redclaw. you MUST inform DEFRA. Or i will, whatever. this is VITAL.

they should be £3.99-£5.99.
females are green with red and blue flecks, when immature. they go on to be very blue, when mature.

Males are the same colour when young. but on maturity the, ANVIL (none moving claw part) will have a Vivid red, soft, patch. but the rest of them is the same as the female.

I think that is all in the link i posted.
a quick search using "redclaw" and also my name. will reveal some pictures of females and males, i think. I dont ever keep males, so am not sure.

Yea those are the ones the shops seem to have :).

thankfully, most are. but some greedy LFS peddle illegal species.
I found one a couple of years ago, selling Marble cray. not sure, but last time i checked, they were not in business any more.
whilst it might seem 'fussy' to ask ALL to report any other crayfish found for sale. a quick look in or rivers will tell you why.
invasive, plague ridden, North American Red Signals. have all but wiped out or native White Claw. and if anything as disgusting as the Marble get loose. well who can tell?
