Baby Hermanns Tortoise

Yeah he will be fine in the garden for a while with you, they love exploring, just make sure its not cold, and defo no longer than an hour or two. Mine are inside at the mo, just wondering around the front room with a cardboard box of shredded paper that they use for a bed. I hate it when torts are kept locked up so they have the run of the room!
They do carry the salmonella bacteria though so make sure you wash your hands well and dont let little kids near, just in case.
He's prob no older than a year, so you have a lot longer to go before you think about hibernating.
Remember never ever ever drill a hole in his shell like they used to, its very painful for them as their shells are full of nerve endings.
Also, give him strawberrys, sounds odd but they LOVE them!

Wow Thanks! Strawberries sound great! And I would guess they're just the right kind of texture for his tiny beak. I'm keeping a measure of his weight to see how much it's increasing but when i measured him recently, I noticed the underside of his shell is a tiny bit soft. Well... not soft but... I hope you might know what i mean! Is this something to worry about or is this just because his shell is still growing? Sorry for all these problems but seeing as you guys are so helpful and experienced, I'd better ask on here. P.S Don't worry. I would never even think about drilling a hole in his shell. I wouldn't bare seeing him suffer. The breeder we bought him from has put a tiny blob of silver nail varnish on his shell. I hope that's ok
