Baby guppies staying at top of tank

Like @Colin_T stated a background picture really helps also a few more plants can help the guppies relax and feel safe. @Tez_20 hit the nail on the head when it comes to danios, they love to zip around the tank, they need a big tank and are full of energy. Guppies tend to be more laid back in comparison.

I did a water change about 4 hours ago and since then, all of the fish have been hiding under the filter and not coming up for food. Any guesses what it might be?

My guess is stress/fear. Try turning the tank lights off and the room lights down for a little while and see if they come out.

I’ve done that and they seem to be exploring but then going back to their hiding place. If I approach the tank, they immediately go straight back into hiding

Sounds like my fish when I first got them. It may take awhile for them to warm up to you, Try to have a radio or TV on and go by the tank often so they get use to people. Have some floating plants.

I've just read what you've said and actually i think you have got guppies which are now stressed with the danios and any alterations is making it worse for them..don't you have a friend or anyone who can take them off your hands and re-home them.

The danios are probably stressing them

That would be the best case results if the danios could be re-homed or placed in another tank. All their activity is stressful to fish like guppies, add in bright lights and lack of plants and background it all adds up. You can try the suggestions on lights, background, plants and hiding spots and they may help the guppies but the Danios are still going to be active.

My son in law as danios but he's got them mixed with platy and other fish their own size so it takes down their activity...until they are removed those guppies will hide or keep well away.

Unfortunately not.

Do you know why your nitrates are at 30ppm? It would be preferable for them to be around 10ppm. Maybe you need more plants.
