do they smell really bad? i always see ferret spray or something for odor in pet stores.

Unless you have an unaltered male, they smell very strong in rut, ferrets shouldn't have much of an odor. I think a lot of the "odor" that people experience from ferrets is from (1.) not keeping their ears properly cleaned, and (2.) the diet that the ferrets live on.

I am more inclined to side with number two. A lot of prepared kibble diets contain fish and carbohydrates, which are not normal to a ferrets natural diet. I've been keeping ferrrets for nine years, when I put them on a raw meat/whole prey diet there was a 100% difference in their odor- both secreted by their glands, in their fur, and also the smell of the litterbox. They have no smell at all.

NO FERRETS DO NOT SMELL!!!

After 10 years of keeping rescue ferrets and keeping other animals as pets I can honestly say that ferrets are some of the cleanest, friendlist and best-smelling animals there are! (Their coats do smell nice in the summer).

The only time a ferret will smell is if a male as been left with ummm... his two uncles! Also, a ferret might smell if the diet is poor or if they are not look after very well (In my experience this is the case with ALL animals - except fish!).
I don't know about you but I can smell if somebody has a dog as soon as I walk into their house. Providing you look after them well, feed them the right diet and get them neutered then they don't smell AT ALL!

Maybe in a few years I'll look into it once we get a bigger house and maybe once Mirtha our Dalmation has moved on! Dont think she would be so good bought being bit on the lip!! She trys to play with the cat but is just too boisterous she'd break a ferret! They are so cute! I will keep your rescue place in mind!!!

I'll just keep pushing for the shetland sheep and pony for now!

Yea I am back I had a little trouble and now it is all taken care of. I just love them pictures...The last one is just beautiful I am moving to where the shelter is I want them babies. Too bad I cant pay shipping I would take them all. If you all change your minds on shipping them to the US let me know the offer still stands LOL I would take them all... I love ferrets! The school i went to for one year had 2 of them and they had there smell glands removed or whatever, and they still smelled bad!

Ferrets are like cats, they are so playful and funny
