I got some Cories of a member on here on Saturday evening and that night and the morning after the Bronze Corys were busy laying eggs all over the tank. Any way I made a home made hatchery using a bottle and put all the eggs I could get to in the this, I then put an airstone in there with them. Well Ive just got home from work and there must be 50+ baby corys in there and still hatching.
Now what do I feed them on? Do I leave the Airstone on? What else do I need to do?

Thanks

Any food the adults eat, crushed as fine as you can get it.

You really need to move the fry into a tank (or plastic storage box, if you don't have tank available) with some sort of cycled filter.

A box type filter that runs off your air pump (you can knock something up yourself out of a clean (empty!) margarine tub or pop bottle, if you don't have a proper one, and fill it with media from your main tank's filter.

Apart from that, lots and lots of water changes; being extra careful to temperature match and dechlorinate the new water (or use water from the main tank, and then top that up).

Right my tank is huge so lots of water changes is not going to happen. Im hoping they will survive in my homemade hatchey till next week when Im going to get a small tank to put them in.

Also is there a way to stop the adult corys to stop laying eggs? Ive discovered another 50ish eggs today. I wasnt expecting them to lay any eggs at all really so I wasnt ready for them.

Jeez-oh boromir, the we guys have been busy! They spawned like once iny tank too. Think the drop in temp has made them spawn mad

I don't think there's a way to make them stop, without removing them. If you don't want the hassle of bringing them up just leave the eggs in your tank. I'm sure your other fish will eat them.

As for your home made hatchery. Have you put some pin holes in the sides of the bottle? That way, there'l at least be some sort of water movement, all be it, only a little. That way, for a water change, you could just lift the bottle put, let it drain down into your tank. Then top of up with fresh water from your tank.

What temperature is the main tank at?
Cory's tend to spawn at low ish temps.

Cheers

Think Im going to have a go at raising some, gonna go and buy a smaller tank to put them in. Then see where I go from there. Most of them still going good its amazing how fast there growing. Have also put some holes in the bottle.

Ive got the tank at 26 Celsius.

Brilliant mate, nice 1 :good:

Pets at home in drumchapel sell wee tanks for around 15/20 quid, they would be ideal for cory fry. They don't come with anything though, lights filter etc, but its a good start.
