Baby Bristlenose

I've had my Bristlenose now for a week or so, he seems happy and livley.

I have put cucumber in the tank but he either cant find it or doesn't like it (I have no idea?) but he wont go near it or on it.

He seems happy enough just mooching round on the wood, is this normal? He's grew a little since having him.

Whats my options to try next? lol

Courgette Scott? Much more nutritional. My BN's are all over any i put in the tank and the apple snails like it too!

Does he go near algae wafers or do you not bother with those?

Also how long has the cucumber been in the tank? Leave it over night and all day tomorrow and see if it dwindles any. Your Keyholes may like it also.

I cant keep the shrimp or keyholes off the cucumber lol they love it. It's been in since I did a water change about 5pm. Is it safe to leave it in all night? It's stuck on a spoon as I have nothing to hold it down .

I do drop algae wafers in but after lights out so the fish dont eat them (only used them for shimp, but thought the BN might stumble uppon them too)

same as an adult....algae wafers, cucumber, courgette (but who keeps that in their fridge???), blanched brocolli.....loads of stuff!

If you've got any brown diatoms in the tank it will love that.

No need for a special 'baby' diet.

We've always got courgette in ours. if you're worried then add a couple of wafers before you go to bed. And yes it will be fine left in. I leave mine in until it has all gone then just get the odd bit of skin out and the fork.

Mine gets algae wafers only and any algae in the tank which is not much at all, Cucumber and Courgette's are mostly all water so are pretty rubbish nutritionally, I had mine from about an inch long, it took him a few days to begin feeding, but he's growing fast, at about 2.5 inches now after 4 weeks.

Don't bother with cucumber, next to no nutritional value.

Courgette is the big winner, fine to be left overnight.

Have also offered mine

- Peppers
- Potato
- Carrot
- Sweet potato

with varying degrees of success dependent on the species.

When I put cucumber in my tank my golden nuggets are all over it and they are only 3cm

why do you presume that a well regarded fish keeping magazine would lie about that?

well it will rot but it depends on just how stocked you are really... if you are understocked you will have no probs but if you are right on the limit you could end up with more ammonia than your tanks filter can deal with

see my point? it depends on the existing bioload to the effect it will have
