Well, out of nowhere, I have 19 baby swordtail fry, two days old. They are blacks like mom, though some should surely develop fin color of their daddy. They are so cute, they look just like grains of wild rice in size and color.

I'll try to post some pics in the near future.

Congrats, I have baby swordtail fry too, but I've only got 2. Found them in main tank when I came back from shopping. Mine are orange and one as a black tail.

Can't wait to see pics of urs

Gee

Congratst to you as well! Aren't they cute! As for size they are about 7mm and up. Pretty teeny. They are enjoying bbs micrworms and are hiding in the false duckweed that I use in breeding my bettas.

Congrats :) I found eight new orange fry today to go with the 30 I got two weeks ago. They are about a day old judging by their color and the yolk-sacks have been fully absorbed. Not sure who the Mom is but strangly enough one of my Blacks seems to have gotten a bit thinner. I was really hoping to get some black fry!

do livebearers have yolk-sacs paul :S i thouht they were just born surely it would of effected their swimming if they were born live with them?

Swordies are born with a nice round belly that gets absorbed in about a half day or so, it is not a very lage one but it could be veiwed as a form of a yolk sack. They are hatched from eggs that are developed inside the female and on occasion the eggs are released without having opened. I have had a female that would usually drop 10 or more undeveloped or underdeveloped eggs during a birthing.
