Hello all.

I recently got the Azoo sponge filter Please look at it here.

The tube does not connect tightly to the sponge so it just slides out. Also, the sponge just floats. If anyone has used this filter, please help.

I just can't figure it out!

Thanks.

I've never seen a sponge filter like that before, but they all tend to work the same way. Connect an airpump to the smaller of the two plasic pipes, and put the sponge over the other end, whicj I'm guessing has slots or holes in it.

The air bubbling up the centre larger tube "drag" water with them, this causes water to be pulled through the sponge which over time gets colonised by beneficial bacteria. Fully waterlogged, the sponges are usually only just buoyant, if it has a tendancy to float, put a few stones on top of it, (don't cover it), to hold it down.

To clean it, fill a bucket with tank water, then gently squeeze the sponge in the bucket a few times. You want to get rid of surplus crud, but not wash out the bacteria - the are is not to make it TOO clean.

Sponge filters are very useful for breeders, I use a lot of them, but generally take up a lot of space in a display tank.

Did the thing not come with any instructions?

No. It's from Japan or somewhere. It only has a diagram of the different pieces. The biggest problem I have is that the air tube won't stay in the sponge. There's no way to actually connect it.

Thanks for your response.

The air tube should be arranged such that the bubbles run up the wider tube, it should not, per se, connect to the sponge.
