Hi! I'm feeling jealous of all you people with planted tanks. I'm going to have to start up another one soon.

That's how I got started, still haven't quite got what I would say is a 'real' planted tank, still in the half hearted stage due to funds.

I noticed you mentioned you didn't know why the bottom tank looked so blurry and yellow. Probably a different color temperature on the bulb. Your new T5 looks really blue in the picture. Is it? You might have an algae problem if the K value is too high.

I know the bulbs are very different in the 2 tanks, what I meant is because in the 'before' pic on the top tank where it has the desk lamp the bottom tank looks right, wheras in the 'after' pic it looks very blurry and yuk, think it was just me not being very steady the day I took the 'after' pic or something as I've taken pics since and they have come out fine.

Yes unfortunately one of the bulbs on the new T5 is a blue bulb but it will do for now on the goldies tank, when I setup my 40G and move the light over to that I will buy a replacement tube. Not sure what the K value is on the blue one as it just says '28W blue' wheras the other tube says '28W 12,000K' the unit has built in reflectors as well, not bad for £47(which included a 4ft tank / stand & external filter) .
