hey, thats a nice tank there buddy!
How's it going along? Any recent piccies?

James

Going OK, but I replaced one of the plants and got some bloody snails in there - damn things are everywhere. I have been trying to kill the blasted things using Flbenzol (worked before) but these ones WON'T DIE. I think I'll try a shotgun next.

So, tip if ever there was one... IF YOU SEE A SNAIL, don't think 'oo how cute', get it out and blow its bloody head off!!!! :hyper:

As for the rest of the plants, most of them are still there. I'm a lazy so & so and one of the lights stopped working and hence some of the plants died off. I have since replaced it and everything is growing explosively again, but none of the more colourful plants are there now, it's all green. Perhaps when I get rid of those friggin snails I'll put more colourful plants back in. The whole idea behind my experimental tank was: a) lowest possible cost. b) lowest possible maintenance. c) to still look non-crap.

I am well pleased that I got all those targets and it's still going strong (especially the poxy snails)!

Snails are horrible thiongs:p I've never had a massive explosion, ive always somehow mamaged to keep it in control.
If there is room in the tank, maybe try adding some small loaches. If that fails, then use the shotgun ;)

Hmm, there are many ways of dealing with pest snails...

I truely believe that the ONLY way to COMPLETELY eraticate a tank of snails is using a SAFE chemical method (snails get everywhere, i.e. in the filters where fish cannot get to eat them). Also bear in mind the eggs they lay.

I have successfully COMPLETELY eratidacted an infestation of physa acuta from my tank once already using a weekly 5 week dosage of Flubenol-15 (this stuff is a medication & is completely safe for fish and shrimp alike)... However I now have a new infestation of rams horns and the Flubenol does not seem to be working as well... I think I'll have to go for more doses for a longer period (Flubenol is safe up to 20x the recommended dose).

I'll get there, shotgun permitting! :hey:

haha, if you ver have an MTS infestation, i'd be happy to take them off your hands.

Quick update, Tannins have started leaching out :p as expected.

Axolotl doesn't seem to mind..

LOL

Some people panic when thier tanks go tea coloured.

Some love the look as it very accurately mimics some environments.

If it is a problem to you, boil the crap out of the wood many times & then leave it in a bucket of water for a month!!!!
