So am thinking about collecting a kind of fish again. Similar to when I collected catfish as many of you know. In my 29g I have my axolotl And he's kind of lazy as most are and just sticks to the bottom really. I experimented with guppies with him and he doesn't care at all. And they dont bother him. I was thinking about doing tetras the same way I did catfish and got a few small tanks dedicated to them. I have the 29 and a 10 atm thinking of kind of using rocks to seperate the bottom and top of the tank with rocks and of course he will be able to come up it would just be a lot of hiding spots at the bottom for him to hide. But at the top have like my guppies and was thinking like serpae and some skirt tetras. and for my 10 I was thinking orca catfish and maybe some small tetras like ember, neon or lemon. What are your guys thoughts and suggestions???

Axolotl’s should not be kept with any fish, period. If you want a tetras, I would use a separate tank.

Yeah I had these guppies before I had the axolotl in my 10g which I redid, and I haven't had any issues with either fish. I used the guppies to help cycle the tank and figured if he ate them they were healthy considering I had them for awhile and they weren't just like feeder goldfish fresh from petco lol , or if they got along they got along.

Hi! First of all, great to meet another member with an axolotl!!! Would love to see a photo, if you’ve got any:wub: If the guppies don’t bother him, they seem fine. I have been thinking of doing the same thing you did with the guppies, throw em in, if they get eaten they get eaten, if they get along then great! I wouldn’t do tetras though, axolotls generally do best in their own, and some tetras are awfully nippy.

Sure thing! I’ll keep the guppies only I. If there’s no issues. Thanks!

Axolotls need cool water. If you must keep fish with it, they should be cool water fish. My first choice would be White Cloud Mountain minnows. They are small enough to be eaten, yet fast enough to avoid it for a while.
