i thought it may be a good idea to introduce one of these?

sort of like the buy sell and swap section except a little like ebay, if you get my idea?

this could work i think

members could list one item and put a strting price then other members bid up and the topic gets closed after say a week.

cheers

It would be good but i bet there is some downside to it, like legal requirements to create a proper thing like ebay? You could do that now though, in topic title say AUCTION: "Fish tank."

Maybe aaron didn't want to do into some details here, but do you know how much work that would be?

Some sort of ranking system would have be put into place, to identify the good buyers and sellers. Some sort of system that has consequences -- like losing your account -- if you fail to pay for your fish to sell them at the auctioned price. Code would have to be written to do the auctions properly. This is a huge amount of work...

Especially considering that there are already sites that have fish auctions. aquabid is probably the best known. This site wasn't made to auction fish, this site was made to discuss fish. I wouldn't hold my breath to see this implemented.

People get scammed and lose money on websites like ebay/paypal which have tight security dedicated to auctions. This site has (and never will have) no security dedicated to online auctioning and so could result in disaster.

This sort of thing would need a huge amount of rules, and if this forum can't even handle a general chat forum, do you really think it could handle an auction that would put people's money at risk?

We actually have a situation now concerning a member who bought from another member through the BSS forum and then apparently didn't get their product and has led to a PayPal dispute so an auction would just be a disaster waiting to happen.
