Attention cichlid freaks

or maybe they just decided not to read this thread:

http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?showtopic=94222

lol don't feel jealous that the New Worlds Forum is better than the Africans. after all there are some africans that would put some New Worlds to SHAME!!!!

my personal fav africans are the Livingstonii, and the Eye Bitter.

I've just set up this great jam jar in which I intend to keep my heavily in-bred Oscar...

I'll try and get some pics up so that you can check out his beautiful finnage...

seeing as how it is now 11 pm and I have to be at work in 5 hours I will figure out how to take this comment in context later.

Its ok I knew the new worlds were the most popular...and they have probably earned their keep. Its all in jest. :p

just thought that I would bump this and see if there were any other ideas floating somewhere in sombody's mind?

I think the best thing to do will be a compatibility chart for new world cichlids. My personal experience-
Oscars and parrots don't go good together. Keyholes and angels can live together peacefully but caution on the keyhole One of my males seams to like to chase the angels but no nips. :)
I mean really a big chart of what people have kept together peacefully.

I am interested in seeing what the others think before I commit my reply but I didn't want you to think that I hadn't seen it.

Generally, most cichlids of a similar size and same aggression level can be housed together, most dwarf cichlids do well together, and large peaceful cichlids (Uaru) do well with smaller ones (Apistogramma).

But usually, tank size will be the main problem with housing different cichlids together, because aggressive fish will take over any tank, and the passive fish will get beat up for being in the tank.

Even size doesn't matter sometimes, because small aggressive cichlids can sometimes pick on a larger, peaceful cichlid.

A compatability chart would be good for cichlids under 4" (Keyholes included), but for the larger ones, getting info and first hand experience from someone who has experience would be best :)

Haha this is great, I dont know i dont know much about anything other than africans but bettas suck were definatly on top of the world right now.

*bump*
lets get some ideas going again guys

I like the compatability chart.

I spend a lot of time researching how to sex different fish, what kind of colony and community they like, how many females to males, how much room the colony needs, what level they inhabit. All that stuff is mind boggling. Like Dwarfs said a mentor is a good person to have. Dwarfs' dad has been a big help to me, among many others. Something that gives a good foundation in the questions to ask and the answers to expect might be helpful to those that will read it. :alien:

BTW don't forget the gals along with the guys. :p

the idea of the compatibility chart is easier for africans than for new worlds. imo new worlds are so much more territorial, and unless given super large tanks short of the dwarf species, and a few other odd species your really only looking at a species only tank. but that is just my opinion. DD is right this really needs to be jump started

what about a small article on why NW and Rift Lake cichlids can't mix....and we could pin it in both forums -_-
